Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Chiller Technician with specialized skills in chiller maintenance, tear-down, and rebuilds. This position plays a critical role in diagnosing, repairing, and restoring high-capacity cooling systems for commercial facilities.


Essential Duties

  • Perform inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance on commercial chillers, with a focus on centrifugal systems (York, Trane, Carrier, Daikin, etc.)

  • Execute full chiller tear-downs and rebuilds, including compressor overhauls, bearing replacement, shaft alignment, and seal installation

  • Conduct performance testing, vibration analysis, and refrigerant leak detection

  • Complete annual and seasonal start-up/shutdown procedures

  • Work from service bulletins, engineering drawings, and OEM specifications

  • Document all repairs, parts used, and labor in work order systems

  • Follow safety protocols, including proper refrigerant handling and EPA compliance

  • Assist in training junior technicians on chiller maintenance best practices

  • Provide on-call/emergency response for critical cooling issues as needed


Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience servicing large commercial chillers, with demonstrated centrifugal chiller tear-down and rebuild expertise

  • Experience with multiple OEM brands (Trane, York, Carrier, Daikin, etc.)

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification required

  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, refrigeration cycles, and mechanical systems

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and service manuals

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, and in confined spaces

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred Skills

  • Factory training or OEM certification on chillers

  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and control systems

  • Knowledge of water treatment for chiller systems

  • Welding, brazing, or pipefitting experience
