We are seeking a senior submarine warfare technology analyst to provide technical contributions and leadership in support of continued American undersea superiority. We are a hardworking team of physicists, engineers, and mathematicians who develop and assess next-generation acoustic and electromagnetic system concepts and systems to meet critical challenges to the U.S. Navy Submarine Warfare mission. Our group strives to cultivate an environment of innovation and collaboration while working on complex technical problems that contribute to the security and effectiveness of the United States Submarine Force and undersea Navy systems!

As a Senior Submarine Warfare Technology Analyst...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to provide insight and leadership in the development, evaluation, and employment of Submarine Warfare (SW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Undersea Warfare (USW) sensors and systems. These contributions may include assessment of new physics concepts and technologies, analysis of Navy needs, problem definitions, requirements and metrics development, system assessment, and transition of solutions to the fleet.
  • You will leverage your at-sea submarine experience and technology development expertise to enhance the effectiveness and mission focus of APL teams and technology development efforts.
  • You will work with technical teams, APL program managers, and Navy sponsors to develop, evaluate, and transition SW, ASW, and USW sensors and systems. This will include analysis of existing systems, the development of next-generation sensors and advanced sensing concepts, and delivery of recommendation and conclusions to the Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors.
  • You will interact with DoD and/or Navy staff to facilitate task execution, work prioritization, and setting of their strategic visions. This includes briefing the sponsor or DoD command staff on the insights of the work.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's degree with ten or more years of relevant SW/ASW/USW leadership experience.
  • Are Submarine Warfare qualified and have served as a high-ranking officer on any US submarine.
  • Are technically and analytically oriented, possess curiosity about SW/ASW/USW sensor systems, and are motivated to work on large, exciting portfolios.
  • Have strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to lead teams of people.
  • Are willing and able to travel up to 2/3 of your time to sponsor facing sites.
  • Are willing to take on dynamic projects and can prioritize amongst a number of concurrent taskings.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance.If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

  • A Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Defense and Strategic Studies, or a relevant technical field.
  • Served as a Commanding Officer on a US submarine.
  • Served on the staff of an operational Navy Task Force or Task Group.
  • Experience working with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) N97.
  • Articulated a long-term plan or established a roadmap for the Navy.
  • A current Top Secret or higher level security clearance.
  • An thorough understanding of potential adversary defensive and offensive capabilities.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
