About the Job

The Graduate School Diversity Office (GSDO) within the Graduate School at the University of Minnesota is looking for a part-time (50%, 20 hours per week) casual temp employee September, 2025 through November 21, 2025. This position provides general administrative support, purchasing, and event support.

This position will be mostly remote, though will require in-person presence for supporting approximately three - five on-campus events during the employment period.

This position will report to the Associate Director, Outreach & Recruitment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for general email inquiries from faculty, staff, students, and prospective students via departmental email accounts, directing questions to appropriate resources.
  • Send follow-up emails to prospective students after recruitment events, connect prospective student leads with programs of interest.
  • Support signature events preparation, set-up, registration tables, and clean-up (i.e., U of MN Graduate Programs Fair, FYI Welcome, COSP Winter Gathering).
  • Coordinate the recruitment Application Fee Waiver process (i.e., respond to inquiries via email, manage fee waiver spreadsheet).
  • Post on COSP Facebook and Instagram pages as requested (i.e., COSP events, student org events, campus resources).
  • Initiate and reconcile purchase transactions via UMarket and Chrome River.
  • Additional administrative projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in an administrative office setting, or BA/BS degree with at least two (2) years of experience in an administrative office setting.
  • Previous work in the University of Minnesota, familiarity with UMN purchasing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience setting up events or meetings, ordering supplies and catering, and reconciling purchase transactions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote work setting with independent judgement and discretion.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Suite applications (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Shared drives, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and partner with and across diverse groups and communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with customer service.
  • Experience with posting on social media.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in identifying errors and solving problems.
  • Experience working with students, faculty and staff in a higher education setting.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour ; depending on education/qualifications/experience.*

*For a maximally qualified hire, the pay is $28 per hour. There are no other University benefits associated with this temporary casual position.
