What does the Manager, Pharmacy Services position do?
Manages and oversees clinical pharmacy services, including the development and implementation of pharmaceutical care plans in designated specialty areas or product lines. Responsible for the supervision and management of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Ensures compliance with clinical protocols and regulatory requirements. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of clinical pharmacy services, including staffing, workflow, and productivity.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor pharmaceutical care plans and clinical protocols to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, including performance evaluations, professional development, and mentoring.
  • Perform and oversee initial patient evaluations and work-ups as they pertain to disease status and anticipated prescribed therapy.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data relevant to patient therapy.
  • Obtain histories and other patient data to optimize drug therapy and nutritional support management.
  • Establish therapeutic objectives and monitor patients for desired therapeutic outcomes.
  • Evaluate the significance of signs and symptoms relative to disease processes and recommend modifications in drug therapy.
  • Detect and evaluate the clinical importance of adverse reactions and complications associated with drug therapy.
  • Provide counseling and answer questions from patients, family, and healthcare professionals concerning drug therapy.
  • Maintain active involvement with clinicians in the development and implementation of a standard drug order format and ordering process.
  • Ensure thorough and appropriate documentation in patient clinical charts of physician orders and communication with other healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate with physician staff and service providers in planning and implementing patient care plans to ensure safe and timely delivery of drug therapy.
  • Review and perform QA checks on all new and repeat medication orders.
  • May prepare or supervise the preparation and dispensing of drug therapy according to Company policies and procedures.
  • Present training and in-service programs as necessary.
  • Develop and implement educational initiatives for patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members.
  • Participate in policy development, advocacy, and institutional committees. Review and provide recommendations for treatment plans in the EMR.
  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in pharmaceutical care and services.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards of practice.
  • Manage the budget and financial performance of the clinical pharmacy services department.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

  • Bachelor's or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Minimum seven (7) years' experience as a registered pharmacist
  • Minimum three (3) years in oncology or completion of PGY2 Oncology Residency
  • At least two (2) years of prior supervisory and management experience.
  • Valid state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist.
