The Director of Tax oversees Pelican's worldwide tax policies and objectives, manages the tax reporting, tax planning and compliance function to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes, and ensures accuracy and timeliness of tax returns and works to minimize Pelican's tax obligations.



JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and review of the Company's Global annual and quarterly income tax provisions.
  • Coordinates with outside tax advisors and manages outsourced preparation and filing of Federal and State income tax returns, including transfer pricing.
  • Manages and implements tax reporting, compliance, and accounting policies.
  • Manages all tax audits, assessments, and requests for information.
  • Manages sales, use and property tax reporting, and other non-income tax issues.
  • Develops, implements, and executes tax cycle business controls and procedures including key controls.
  • Prepares financial statement disclosures related to income taxes.
  • Simplifies systems and processes to efficiently compile information for reporting, compliance, and audits.
  • Plans and provides technical support for domestic and international tax matters, including acting as project manager or tax lead on cross functional projects including tax due diligence on M&A activities.
  • Liaises with accounting, financial reporting, operations, HR, and other business groups or functional areas regarding domestic and international tax issues.
  • Advises senior management of the business impact of new tax laws and related income tax regulations, court decisions and proposed tax legislation.
  • Conducts strategic planning for intercompany transactions, including drafting and maintaining intercompany agreements and support of transfer pricing business model.
  • Reviews tax entries into the company's accounting system as needed.
  • Follow company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance with the job.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS



  • BS/BA in Accounting required with CPA or MBA with a specialization in Taxation preferred.
  • 10-12 years of global corporate/public tax experience, preferably within manufacturing, consumer products or services industries.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of GAAP accounting for income taxes (ASC740).
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving abilities, able to research complex tax matters and reach sound conclusions.
  • Knowledge of federal income taxation of international transactions or operations.
  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills with senior management, cross-functional teams, and outside tax advisors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving, growing, dynamic environment.
  • Competency with accounting system software packages including SAP.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • CPA or MBA with a specialization in Taxation

  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ensures that staff is contributing at maximum potential through rigorous hiring practices and an emphasis on training and development initiatives, including coaching and counseling direct reports in their performance and professional development, with final authority for approving pay increases, hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.


  • Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican's brand and reputation.
  • Establishes challenging, productive and achievable goals for direct reports; measure results by establishing checkpoints to track progress.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS



  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
