About the Job

This position has the responsibility for monitoring and enforcing parking of UMM streets and parking lots.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Identifies and writes citations for violation of parking ordinances on University of Minnesota Morris streets and in lots in accordance with University Policy. 50%
  • Patrols streets and lots on foot and by car. Inspects buildings and grounds for irregularities such as potential fire hazards, water or gas leaks and unauthorized persons in an area. Closes doors and windows left open, turns off lights inadvertently left on. 25%
  • Assists the college community, Police Department, Fire Department and Ambulance Service with emergency situations. 10%
  • Performs special security related duties as assigned. 10%
  • Checks parking signs for proper signage and reports vandalized or missing signs. 5%
Qualifications

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Graduation from high school plus a valid Minnesota driver's license.
  • Proficient driving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
  • Ability to withstand verbal confrontation from the public and to be courteous and tactful to violators.
  • Ability to read and understand signs.
  • Ability to write legibly and accurately record information.
  • Ability to complete work assignments, take and understand directives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic groups in a wide variety of situations.

Physical and/or environmental requirements

  • Work will be outdoors each day. Employee is required to work outside in all weather conditions at a fixed post or roving post as directed.
  • Ability to walk for long periods in all weather conditions.
  • Good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear conversational voices.
  • The work also requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, bending or stooping.
    • Must be able to stand for eight (8) hours a shift.
    • Must be able to carry 10 - 15 pounds continuously (equipment for job, belt, jacket, etc.)
    • Must be able to lift 10 - 20 pounds regularly (signs, barricades, etc.)
    • Must be able to move 30 - 50+ pounds occasionally (move a car or person).
  • This position requires officer to wear a uniform.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and background check

Pay Range: $21.80 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
