What you'll do:

As a Credit Risk Review Director you'll plan and execute multiple credit assurance, advisory, and oversight services for the Bank's second line of defense responsible for the management of credit risk known as the Credit Risk and Review Group. You'll provide credit assurance and advisory services with respect to all credit risk processes and related regulatory expectations, as well as matters involving new policy formulation, policy revisions, credit grading, specific loan loss reserves and new business initiatives. You'll interact with lines of business leaders, regulatory agencies and internal/external auditors to ensure an effective, risk-focused function, and adequate depth/breadth of coverage. You'll demonstrate an excellent knowledge of regulatory requirements and expectations pertaining to credit risk management. You'll support a strategic expansion of Internal Credit Risk Review with the establishment of a dedicated Wholesale Banking - Private Credit Coverage Team, equipped with capabilities and expanded review processes that will enhance credit assurance provided to internal and external stakeholders. This position reports to the Senior Credit Risk Review Director and Head of the Credit Risk & Review group.
  • Build and maintain a cohesive and cooperative culture within the Credit Risk & Review Group. Source and develop depth of talent and expertise within the team which supports succession and sustainability of well-defined processes. Formulate and maintain departmental policy and procedure manuals, as well as a variety of management-level reports. Ensure the financial soundness of the Bank by identifying, assessing, and escalating credit risk to the Head of Credit Risk & Review Group and other key stakeholders.
  • Execute and lead a dedicated team's execution of continuous quarterly credit file examination activities and/or credit process review engagements. Execute and lead a coverage team's execution of quarterly analyses of the credit quality trends of the loan portfolios of assigned reviewable business units or risk segments.
  • Perform proper risk-based sampling techniques for scoping continuous file reviews and process reviews; determine the need for expanding scope and adjusting exam procedures, as appropriate; guide less experienced reviewers in determining the accuracy of assigned risk ratings and analyzing borrower risk attributes and risk factors; review the work papers of other Credit Risk Review Officers; and provide constructive feedback as required.
  • Properly evaluate changes or weaknesses within Credit Administration processes or policies and effectively inspire line management and Credit Administration to acknowledge issues and operate with appropriate sense of urgency and focus on their timely clearing of identified deficiencies.
  • Lead and develop a team; responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, training and development.

What you'll need:

  • 10+ years of related experience in Risk Management, Credit Risk & Review Group or similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Expert knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting, financial statements and tax returns, and cash flow analyses, as well as a highly refined ability to make insightful comments relating to a borrower's current and prospective credit risk profile.
  • Expert knowledge of analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to understand business and industry concepts in order to develop and suggest intelligent, viable solutions to problems.
  • Expert speaking and writing communication skills.
  • Occasional travel required.
Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally $219,630.00 - $271,310.00 for San Jose, CA. Salary range for new hires is generally $207,535.00 - $256,365.00 for Los Angeles, CA. Salary range for new hires is generally $207,535.00 - $256,635.00 for San Diego, CA. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted stock.
