Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking an Innovation Lab Manager to support the HJF Innovation Lab (HIL) operations. This role will lead laboratory management including compliance with safety and regulatory standards, manage all aspects of laboratory equipment and general administrative operations in support of the HIL mission and resident start-ups. This position will be in support of the HJF Innovation Development department. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. - Laboratory Management and Support
- Coordinate with laboratory management consultants to establish laboratory best practices and support laboratory operations. Establish and maintain laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ensure compliance with all lab safety and regulatory requirements and standards. Manage training requirements and schedules of laboratory personnel. Manage laboratory waste processes.
- Establish and maintain a database of all laboratory inventory, materials and supplies. Maintain an efficient system of inventory control to ensure proper levels of laboratory supplies are available.
- Oversee and support laboratory space management.
- Manage all aspects of laboratory equipment including:
- New equipment installation.
- Manage service contracts. Serve as the primary contact with vendors for scheduling routine and emergency instrument and equipment maintenance/repair.
- Establish and manage maintenance protocols including preventative maintenance schedules. Manage all repairs. Maintain all service records and documentation.
- Establish equipment calibration schedules and manage equipment calibration process.
- Interface with Sky Bridge building managers to facilitate vendor access.
- Assist Director with establishing and administering laboratory operational budget.
- Event and Programming Support
- Manage event and facilities scheduling and catering requirements.
- Coordinate event marketing and attendance.
- Resident and Visitor Reception
- Coordinate day-to-day requests for resident companies and their engagements with HJF business offices.
- Manage reservation calendar of incubator shared laboratories and office spaces with resident companies.
- Provide tours and information to internal and external HIL guests.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences related field.
- Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge managing programs and events.
- Technical laboratory knowledge and experience including:
- General laboratory procedures, safety procedures and standard laboratory techniques and equipment
- Laboratory mechanical systems
- Chemical and medical waste storage and removal processes (to assist labs as needed)
- Electrical (for special equipment) and plumbing (for RO/DI, eye wash, clean/dirty sinks) requirements for lab spaces, as well as HVAC issues (air flow/pressure)
- Automated monitoring devices (for freezers and special equipment)
- Laboratory equipment and systems vendor maintenance management
- Working with vendors to maintain and repair laboratory equipment and systems
- Exceptional networking, negotiation and partnership-building capacities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment
- This position will take place in a mix of office and laboratory settings.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $74,000 - $120,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
