Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Competitive Intelligence Analyst - Machine Sales . The Competitive Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating a competitive intelligence strategy for the Machine Sales and Heavy Rents Division of the Construction Industry. The individual in this role will use industry insights, market trends, competitive analysis, external and internal data to develop an end-to-end strategy that aligns with the CI Prime Growth Strategy.

Through data analysis, competitive research, and external and internal customer assessments, the Competitive Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for developing and maintaining a clear and illustrative view of Carter Machinery's competitive landscape. The individual in this role will play an integral role in building and maintaining a deep understanding of Carter's competitors to better understand their strategies and anticipate future actions. The Competitive Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for documenting discussions and specific findings that will build Carter Machinery's warehouse of competitive insights to support the company's Prime Growth Strategy development and deployment. The Competitive Intelligence Analyst will work directly with the CI Prime Growth Strategy Manager, Machine Sales and Heavy Rents Teams, and the Sales Enablement organization to prioritize key areas of lost opportunity and growth. Machine Sales and Heavy Rents will be the priority area of focus; yet will maintain an awareness to spot competitive threats and market conditions involving other verticals and business areas.

Seeking candidates with three years of machine sales related experience or demonstrated experience in business analysis, research, and collection of data for business purposes is required; Customer facing experience is desired; Bachelor's degree in a related field, or minimum of three years' experience in project management and data analysis.

Requirements for the Competitive Intelligence Analyst - Machine Sales position include:
  • Solid fundamental understanding of machine sales and heavy rent operations, functions, offerings, and processes.
  • Possess a moderate to high degree of technical proficiency to relate and conduct collaborative and meaningful discussions with customers and team members.
  • Must have ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  • Has the ability to work cross-functionally and inter-departmentally in a positive and highly collaborative fashion.
  • A high degree of situational awareness and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with top management and other company personnel. Must be able to make presentations to company personnel.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent written, oral and listening communication skills.
  • Must be willing to travel with possible out-of-town overnight stays.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Powerpoint, and Word.
  • Familiarity in using business intelligence and analytics tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize (with changing priorities), multi-task, address issues quickly and professionally, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Must be able to work effectively, either independently, cross-functionally and/or in team settings.
  • Proactively engages in continual self-development activities to further enhance job related and transferrable skill sets.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships.

Physical requirements must be met for the Competitive Intelligence Analyst job, including the ability to regularly sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
