Position Summary: Oversee safety functions to support company construction teams. Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
- Participate in the implementation of strategic business plans
- Manage capital requests and group's budget
- Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction.
- Set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of the company's resources, support company philosophy, practice and goals, function as a team player and help to maintain excellent communication with the Safety Department Staff and company Management
- Monthly site visits to conduct or participate in site audits/scorecards
- Assure that all projects are planned in phase gates, supported with written site safety plans at the outset of the project. Review the plans for completeness and approve them
- Consult with Group Safety Managers and provide guidance to the Safety Team and project management in the establishment of the safety program, including medical arrangements and an injury management plan
- Work with assigned Safety Analyst to drive the Dashboard process and visible metrics as per the Vice President EHS direction
- Ensure that a corporate safety training plan is completed and provide guidance to the training team members
- Work with the Safety Training manager to ensure all training processes are effective and meeting customers/stakeholders needs
- Identify emerging trends in injury prevention and be aware of new technology, tools, PPE
- Evaluate and recommend safety tools and improvements in department functioning with the VP EHS
- Weekly review of trends and safety data to ensure we provide proactive leadership based on analytics
- Manage the corporate safety policies and procedures and provide recommendations to the VP EHS
- Maintain effective communications with appropriate safety and/or operations management personnel for the various clients with attention to coordination of such communications with the appropriate site management and safety personnel
- Oversee critical meetings at the request of the VP EHS and develop the agendas, ensure Director or GSM's understand assignments
- Ensure the ISN, PICS and other prequalification processes are maintained as required
- Attend or ensure attendance on phase gates or job kickoffs to provide appropriate safety support at the earliest planning phase of each project
- Maintain strong communications with site management, Group Sr. Directors, and the Vice President EHS regarding compliance by project sites with the Corporate Safety Program and policies and actions taken to remedy any deficiencies
- Assist Group Managers in staffing to support field operations
- Maintain a recruiting network of safety managers to provide operation with safety support
- Provide input and support to the Site Managers for performance evaluation of Safety Staff
- Manage the selection and assignment of site safety personnel with attention to proper experience, training, and qualifications for the type of project to which they are being assigned or proposed for assignment
- In the event a serious safety condition is identified during a site visit, assure that complete and appropriate corrective action has taken place. Assume the authority to order discontinuance of work on a project, or area of a project, where such serious safety conditions cannot be immediately corrected
- Manage the Injury Management process for occupational injuries to provide the highest levels of medical care for injured workers while maintaining regulatory compliance and consistency in application
- Work with the VP EHS on Regulatory issues including OSHA/MSHA Recordability, Inspections, Preparation for Informal's, etc.
- Oversee the Drug and Alcohol Program for the company
- Provide mentoring and progressive career opportunity for Safety Staff
- Manage the company proactive processes and oversee the R4 program
- Oversee the company environmental program with the VP EHS as required to ensure compliance
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in Safety or a safety related field or equivalent experience
- Professional certification (CSP, CIH, CHST) required
- 12-15 years related experience in management/construction management or equivalent combination of experience and training
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the company's Zero injury beliefs
- A visible leader, relationship builder and excellent communicator in a proactive and positive manner
- Read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations for application in the company
- Develop reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public

Working Environment:
- When visiting jobsites, the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
- This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
