What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team

The Low Voltage Power Firmware Team is responsible forpower distribution and management featureson the Tesla vehicle platforms.As an engineer on this team, you will be responsible for testing our vehicle's power management and distribution features to ensure the quality and safety of the user's driving experience.You will architect, design, and implement firmware validation procedures, equipment, tooling, and automation to efficiently test vehicle components and subsystems.You will work closely with development and integration teams to explore and validate the performance capabilities of our hardware and firmware to ensure code quality is high.Your effort to create and equip automated validation infrastructures and coverage reporting will have a direct impact on the reliability, robustness, and value of our products. Your impact will help the world's acceleration to energy sustainability.


What You'll Do
  • Design, implement, validate, and maintain component-level testers, typically in the form of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL)
  • Create software models of physical systems internal and external to Tesla vehicles
  • Work with development engineers to design software validation infrastructure to maximize tester speed, ease of use, reliability, and fidelity
  • Create reporting mechanisms for automated testing for firmware and hardware
  • Understand and deconstruct complicated software systems and devise strategies to test these systems
  • Create and execute test plans designed to expose weakness or faults in components
  • Report the coverage of the automated tests and the metrics that the code is being evaluated against

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field of study with a graduation date between May 2026 - May 2027
  • Proficiency inPython and comprehension of C
  • Experience with Rust preferred
  • Experience inelectronicand systemschematic design & capture (Altium Designer)preferred
  • Experience designing or interfacing withHardware/Software-in-the-loop (HIL/SIL)testsetupspreferred
  • Knowledge of source control (Git) and continuous integration (Jenkins) preferred

    Expected Compensation
    $36.06 - $56.13/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
