Maintenance Technician (Machine/Electrical Tech) IV

Location: Farr West, Utah

Shift: Mondays thru Thursdays 6:00am-4:30pm

Job Summary:

Position is primarily responsible for performing preventive maintenance on and for troubleshooting and performing repairs on designated equipment. This includes troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or electrical failures on equipment, including CNC machines, welding power supplies and welding accessories, weld positioners, and air compressors. Additionally, position may be responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance and periodic repair functions on equipment including fork trucks, vehicles, manual machines, sandblast equipment, cranes, hand tools, hydraulic systems, compressed air systems, and HVAC equipment; performing lubrication and filter maintenance on all equipment as needed. Responsible for establishing/adhering to repair schedules and providing technical assistance to other departments as needed. Position is also responsible to assist and train other departmental members as may be required.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for ensuring equipment is in good functioning order to be able to produce conforming components that meet all blueprint dimensions within the said tolerances. Ensure equipment meets the requirements of the applicable code or specification while working in the most efficient manner. All SOP's and SWI's must be followed, and a safe, clean, and organized work area must be maintained.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform electrical and/or mechanical diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on equipment as needed, including assessing machine failures, and recommending and implementing improvements. Equipment includes CNC machines, welding power supplies and welding accessories, weld positioners, and air compressors.
  • Perform repairs to minor equipment such as hand tools and small power tools as assigned.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on other equipment as needed, including but not limited to machine tools, fork trucks, vehicles, cranes, sandblast equipment, plant utility systems, and HVAC systems.
  • Assist with installation of new machinery and equipment, such as motors and controls, transformers, panel boards, switchgear, AC and DC drives, PLC's CNC Controls and Systems, electrical/mechanical/pneumatic relay systems, gear boxes, overhead cranes, hydraulic systems; and associated mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ensure proper inventory and supply levels are maintained for routine maintenance programs.
  • Manage time and establish schedules and scope of work based on the L2L dispatch system and Preventative Maintenance schedule.
  • Assist fellow team members on repairs as assigned.
  • Provide guidance and training to all maintenance personnel as requested.
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments as needed.
  • Contact established vendors as needed to acquire quotes, estimates and technical assistance and information on new technology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical equipment to board level.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to use manuals, schematics, drawings, and other technical data sheets to effectively troubleshoot machinery, mechanical equipment and systems, and tools.
  • Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems and their associated instrumentation.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and utilize new skills to support the maintenance department.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Ability to understand concerns, gain cooperation and solve problems quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a clear, professional manner.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with managers, supervisors, and team members.
  • Ability to use smart phone to receive and respond to Leading2Lean dispatches.
  • Possess basic computer skills.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Minimum of 2-year trade school or 2 years college credit in applicable areas, or other applicable skilled craft training such as 4-year company apprenticeship, and/or proven trade experience commensurate to the Technician level being filled. Additional consideration for related certifications, and/or associated training and education.

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • Exert 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • Exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Certification Required - Must be able to successfully complete Petersen training on boom and scissor lifts, fork truck, and overhead cranes.

Visual Acuity - Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts and machinery.

Hearing Ability - Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes to take appropriate action.

Working Conditions - Normally works in a shop environment. The employee is subject to:

  • High noise levels from operating machines
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and production components
  • Breathing fumes, dust, and mist
  • Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
  • Working conditions may vary according to weather. Requires ability to work in heat and cold

Safety Requirements:

  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Equipment Used (but not limited to):

  • Multi Voltmeter and other instruments, Various Hand Tools and Power Hand Tools, Office equipment, i.e., telephone, fax, copier etc.

Tooling Required:

  • All basic hand and small power tools required to perform the responsibilities and functions of this position

Availability:

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.
  • Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Travel:

  • Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
