Description

Leidos currently has an opening for a Electrical Engineer to support design, development, and implementation of space based sensor test equipment for our customers at Leidos' Huntsville offices. In this role, you will perform a wide range of subsystem and system test activities on the electrical systems and electronics that form the backbone of our IR Payloads, integrate and troubleshoot subsystems, design / build test stands / test fixtures, write test procedures, perform tests and analyze data, and create test automation software. Further, you will be an integral part of a cross-functional engineering team where there are overlapping roles and opportunities for cross-over skillsets to develop and contribute across a range of technologies. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, and will thrive in a hands-on learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth.

The selected individual must possess a strong understanding of circuit design from small form factor PCBs to mixed analog and digital hardware for standalone designs, sub systems and systems. The potential candidate must also be proficient in circuit board test, analysis and documentation to include power, thermal, mechanical testing procedures, test setup, debug and special test equipment.

Primary Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for supporting Electrical Engineering test design activities for space-related systems and sensors within a digital and analog engineering environment. Primary responsibilities will include supporting requirements, decomposing high-level requirements, verification requirements management, integration and interface activities, documentation of design and development plans, decomposing and developing test requirements and technical performance metrics, and developing test artifacts for the execution of testing.

  • Work from established system requirements and subsystem designs, and use established engineering processes, to develop subsystem and system test operations.
  • Follow engineering, lab, and safety standards and assist engineers in system test and documentation efforts; develop test procedures and contribute to refinement of best practices.
  • Perform functional, electrical, environmental, and requirements verification tests at subsystem and payload system level.
  • Collect and analyze test data and create the corresponding test reports.
  • Integrate, troubleshoot, and debug subsystems and the payload system using modern tools and techniques, to include electronic, electro-mechanical, and software-based technologies.
  • Create, maintain, and configuration control test automation software.
  • Work with Hardware and Software Design Engineers to design, build, and verify custom test equipment.
  • Perform test set-up and configuration.
  • Lead and participate in product design reviews and provide input on testability.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or M.S. degree with 2+ years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience with digital and analog hardware design, PCB technology, assembly, integration and test of boards, subsystems and systems..
  • Experience with PCB design and layout along with associated tools and CAD packages.
  • Experience working on a cross-functional team (PCB layout, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and quality engineering) to facilitate the design process.
  • Experience developing test plans, executing validation and test procedures, evaluating test results, performing analysis and writing technical reports.
  • Knowledge of various hardware and debugging equipment, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance. (U.S. Citizenship is required)
  • 10% travel to customer/subcontractor sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A preferred candidate would also possess sound knowledge of space concepts as well as a good understanding of algorithm implementation and hardware/software implementation.
  • Space based influences (e.g., curvature of the earth, clutter, etc) as it impacts sensor accuracies.
  • Space based sensor accuracies (e.g. Stare, Bias errors, Line of Sight errors, 3D localization accuracies, etc)
  • Masters' degree or higher in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
  • Strong understanding fundamentals with modeling and simulation and/or algorithm development.
  • Experience using Altium PCB design and layout tools.
  • Programming experience in C/C++, Java, Visual Basic, Python, or MATLAB.

At Leidos, we don't want someone who "fits the mold"-we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over-caffeinated, the ones who ask, "what's next?" before the dust settles on "what's now."

If you're already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2... good. You'll fit right in.
