THE POSITION

Tackle a new and exciting opportunity to work with a diverse population! The Department of Corrections is seeking Corrections Community Center Monitors to provide care and supervision to the re-entrant population at the Philadelphia Corrections Community Center. In this role, you will assist people who have been incarcerated to prepare to re-enter their communities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will provide care, custody and control of the re-entrant population at the center and assist other staff in facilitating and monitoring the changes necessary for the offender's successful completion of the program. This will involve being responsible for the security of the center by controlling all re-entrant and visitor movement. Your duties will include conducting re-entrant destination checks via community contacts and telephone contacts as directed, as well as maintaining the daily activity logbook. As a center monitor, you will write heavier observations, attend disciplinary hearings, and serve as a representative of DOC during law enforcement agency interactions. Additionally, you will need to demonstrate the public's and victim's needs, concerns, and complaints and take appropriate action as necessary.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,081.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to work in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
  • You must have the ability to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • You must successfully complete classroom training at the DOC Training Academy in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work (Examples of qualifying experience include but are not limited to public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations, and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile, or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience)
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals (Examples of qualifying work experience include but are not limited to performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military)

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
