THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Domestic Animal Health Inspector, you will be under the supervision of the Veterinary Medical Field Officer and assist in drawing blood samples from horses for both pre and post-race testing, including completing all associated administrative work to submit samples to the lab. Additional duties entail assisting the Bureau of Animal Health to provide support in the event of a domestic animal health emergency. Specific tasks may involve collecting samples for diagnostic purposes, inspection, and compliance duties, and promoting standards to eliminate diseases found in economically important domestic animals.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule is vendor controlled and may vary based on race times.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved Veterinary Medical Technology Training program and two (2) years of experience in the raising or handling of animals used for a variety of commercial purposes including food animals and farm animals; or
  • A bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related area with at least 16 credits in animal science; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires current certification as a Poultry Technician or the ability to gain certification during the probationary period.

  • This position is required to possess a valid class C driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • This position will require possession of a Commission Employee License and Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit Certification once hired.
