ARES is seeking a motivated, career and customer-orientedAircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) Specialistto join the Human Space Flight Support (HSFS) team atPatrick Space Force Base (PSFB) and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS), FL.

The HSFS team is integrated with and directly supports the Space Launch Delta Detachment 3 (SLD 45 Det 3) mission of HSFS for all National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) crewed space programs - Soyuz, Artemis and Commercial Crew - across the Planning, Training, Execution, and Sustainment phases of the HSFS mission.

The candidate shall provide aircrew flight equipment support for the NASA Equipment Package (NEP) including parachutes, aerial delivery packages and support equipment. This support includes technician and quality assurance related tasks.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and scheduling parachute and fabric assembly, maintenance and inspection activities.
  • Checking repaired and repacked survival equipment and determining serviceability based on required specifications and technical publications.
  • Disassembling, assembling, inspecting, cleaning, fabricating, repairing, and packing fabric and rubber components, including flotation equipment, and parachutes for personnel and cargo.
  • Rig rescue associated aerial delivery packages.
  • Installing, removing, inspecting, testing and setting automatic rip cord release opening devices.
  • Storing, handling, and inspecting pyrotechnic items.
  • Inspecting, maintaining and adjusting operator equipment such as oxygen masks, survival kits, and night vision systems.
  • Inspecting and repacking aerial delivery packages and advanced parachute systems utilized by Guardian Angel Teams to accomplish unit mission.
  • Advising on performance standards, working methods and on inspection, repairing and repacking of unit aircrew flight equipment.
  • Operating, maintaining and inspecting survival equipment machinery, testing equipment and tools.
  • Performing operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools.
  • Storing, handling, using and disposing of hazardous waste and materials based on environmental standards and guidance.
  • Maintaining the Material Safety Data Sheet and hazardous material program for unit aircrew flight equipment.
  • Performing aircrew flight equipment continuation training.
  • Monitoring accountability of equipment, forecasting for new equipment purchase and researching emerging technologies to support the mission.
  • Maintaining and updating government furnished regulations, publications and directives

Basic Qualifications:

  • Specialized experience and critical skill set may be substituted for education.
  • Previous experience as Air Force Specialty Code 1P051 or 2T251 (or other service equivalent) with parachute rigger certification.
  • Possess a working knowledge of inspection and repack of aerial delivery packages, advanced parachute systems, parachute rigging certifications, diving operations, vehicles and watercraft associated with the Guardian Angel mission.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, be very adaptable to change and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of contractor and Government employees, and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Significant travel will be required for this position.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in science, business administration or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience as Air Force Specialty Code 1P071 or 2T271 (or other service equivalent) with parachute rigger certification.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently moves Audio/Visual or Computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across and/or around a business campus or large facility.
  • Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions. May be exposed to chemicals associated with the work performed.
