Description

We are seeking an Underwriting Manager to oversee our underwriting staff in making timely decisions within established guidelines.

As the Underwriting Manager, you will remain informed about changes in the secondary market regarding underwriting and product changes and recommend changes as needed. Your strong leadership skills will allow you to conduct ongoing training for origination and processing and coach underwriting staff in areas of underwriting guidelines, software use, products, and procedures.

In this role you will be responsible for:

Requirements

Underwriting Determination:

  • Underwrite and decision more complex applications including self-employed borrowers.
  • Ensure loans are underwritten timely and in accordance with agency, investor, regulatory and internal guidelines.

Secondary Market and Portfolio Underwriting and Product Guidelines:

  • Responsible for keeping current with Secondary Market underwriting guidelines, products and fee changes. Recommend and maintain Portfolio underwriting and documentation guidelines.
  • Maintain policies and procedures with updates in underwriting guidelines, documentation guidelines, settlement fees, and product changes.
  • Manage relationships and performance with Private Mortgage Insurance Providers.

Training:

  • Ensures effective usage of automated underwriting system; coordinates problem resolution and conducts ongoing training for effective usage.
  • Conducts underwriting training for all residential products and procedures.
  • Communicate investor or regulatory changes and impact to underwriting staff.

Supervises residential mortgage underwriters:

  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance management.
  • Communicating objectives, reviewing and recommending procedures, and implementing bank policies.

Quality Control and Audit:

  • Monitor underwriting loan quality and recommend any areas that may need additional training.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Retail Lending to support integrity of HMDA data.
  • Adheres to and upholds all written policies and procedures of the Bank, including BSA/CIP and OFAC monitoring and reporting, security, operation, and personnel policies.

What You Bring

  • Five years of underwriting experience preferred
  • Three years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong leadership skills and regulatory knowledge
  • Ability to use and working knowledge of computers/strong typing skills
  • Good interpersonal communication
  • Must maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Professional appearance; grooming and dress consistent with MB appearance policy
