Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan (LSS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals and families through compassionate care, advocacy, and innovative services. Our Communications team plays a vital role in sharing the stories, values, and impact of our work with the communities we serve.

Position Summary

This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate, or early-career professional, or non-degreed, experience-based professional looking to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of communications functions-from digital content and social media to internal communications and marketing collateral.

This is a unique opportunity to explore multiple facets of nonprofit communications while contributing to meaningful work that changes lives.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Client Support



  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal communications requests ("help desk" style).
  • Coordinate intake and dispatch of requests to appropriate team members.
  • Schedule and monitor client meetings and follow up as needed.
  • Track and manage projects using Smartsheet and shared inboxes.


Content Creation & Digital Support



  • Create and schedule social media posts, including evergreen and holiday content.
  • Draft and format internal email communications (e.g., holiday messages).
  • Assist with website and intranet (LSS Connect) updates.
  • Proofread and edit content for clarity, grammar, and brand consistency.


Design & Marketing Support



  • Set up and manage Canva templates for internal clients.
  • Support the creation of brochures, one-pagers, and other branded materials.
  • Assist with larger organization-wide initiatives including wellness and culture.


Public Relations Support



  • Research related to media outlet calendars, stakeholder demographics, national and local statistics that support LSS program work, etc.

Qualifications



  • High School diploma or equivalent with one year of related work experience (internships count!) required
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred
  • In lieu of degree, at least two years of direct work experience in Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
  • Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, Canva, Microsoft Office, and SharePoint.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or corporate setting is a plus.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation to perform the essential duties of the role; a motor vehicle check (MVR) with a satisfactory driving record per the LSS Driver Safety Procedure is required, and ability to meet LSS auto insurance requirements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to communicate both in verbal and written format, effectively and efficiently in job.

COMPUTER SKILLS/TECHNOLOGY:

Working knowledge of computers to allow employee to access computer systems and applications to complete timecards, read and respond to email, and complete required on-line training.

Must have the ability to learn additional marketing-specific software to include Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media platforms --Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. -- SharePoint, Adobe Premiere, Sprout Social, MailChimp, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the worker is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Keyboarding is required for this position.

The incumbent of this position works in an air-conditioned, office environment. The incumbent will also be exposed to outdoor weather conditions when traveling on company business.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

TRAVEL: Ability to travel on day trips as required up to 10%. Some overnight travel may be required.
