Position Overview The Deposit Research Specialist is responsible for assisting all daily functions within the Deposit Overdrafts and Research Department, including all research functions relating to deposit accounts. This role also involves processing and responding to legal requests including, but not limited to, garnishments, levies, subpoenas. They will also be responsible for the Bank's escheatment process, ensuring all accounts are accurately reported within the established timeframes. As part of the procedure and processing, there will be extensive interaction with branch and operations employees to ensure follow-up and completion of work. Essential Job Functions Level I
- Process various maintenance requests by submitting through JHA Workflow.
- Review reports for quality control and tracking related to relevant department activities.
- Assist with fraud related accounts (may include requesting accounts be restricted and/or research on possible fraud related items, at the request of either Fraud department or for legal documents).
- Complete Verification of Deposit requests within established timeframes.
- Process requests for replacement checks related to the Banks escheatment activities.
- Enter various bank documents to the appropriate applications.
Essential Job Functions Level II
- Handle legal processes (i.e., levies garnishments, citation, etc.), including ensuring all necessary paperwork is filed on a timely basis, make appropriate entries to customer account and handle inquiries regarding these processes.
- Complete research requests from external and internal customers, via the Optical storage system and/or additional database systems within the Bank. This will include legal research related to subpoenas & IRS summons.
- Assist in preparation of annual escheat remittance to the State of Illinois. Prepare and mail customer correspondence and handle inquiries from customers and staff.
- Assist with the processing of SSA & AVS Research requests for Social Security and Medicare.
- Assist in training of department processes as needed.
Essential Job Functions Level III
- Follow-up with applicable Bank employees when errors or inconsistencies are found during verification or research process to resolve issues.
- Complete complex research requests from external and internal customers, via the Optical storage system and/or additional database systems within the Bank. This will include Legal research related to subpoenas & IRS summons.
- Ensure department coverage for time sensitive/critical items during high volume/staffing shortages.
- Handle escalated issues for department when manager is unavailable or out of office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- May serve as a backup for the Overdraft area in performing critical daily tasks when volumes or staffing require.
Minimum Requirements
- Level 1 - High school diploma (or equivalent) and two or more years of banking or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level 2 - High school diploma (or equivalent) and three or more years of banking or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level 3 - High school diploma (or equivalent) and four or more years of banking or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competencies
- Excellent communication skills

- Strong computer application proficiency
Preferred, but not required
- Operational banking experience a plus
- Experience with legal processes (garnishments, citations, etc.)
- College degree a plus
Location Details This position is considered a hybrid role. With management approval, an incumbent may work a combination of remote and onsite work to perform the regular responsibilities of the role. Actual schedule requirements may vary based upon business needs. Note: Job levels and hiring decisions are based upon both the business needs of the department and the qualifications of the incumbent. In some cases, an incumbent may meet the requirements of a level 2 or 3 but may be hired in at a lower level based upon business needs and staffing dynamics.
