Central Lab Supervisor
Job description

Summary Description: Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Quinnesec's central lab activities to ensure good customer support for the mill and outside customers. Lead a team of technicians to provide testing support both routine and project related.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead a team of lab technicians as their direct supervisor or team leader.
  • Approve time sheets and OT as needed.
  • Coordinate internal/external project requests and normal routine testing.
  • Have or acquire skills and knowledge to fill in and /or support testing in the fiber, environmental, and analytical areas.
  • Lab management including budgeting, instrument maintenance, instrument expertise and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with or knowledge of the following advanced analytical methods:
  • FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy)
  • Gas Chromatography
  • Ion Chromatography
  • Atomic Absorption
  • X-ray Diffraction
  • Analytical chemistry skills.
  • Covering weekend environmental testing every 5 weeks.
  • OT as needed for specialized outage support or upsets or urgent requests.
  • Develop a good understanding of the Quinnesec production processes and standard testing procedures for this type of process (for example TAPPI standard procedures).
  • Team development and positive leadership.
  • Manage certifications of lab technicians
  • Work hours to match current accepted lab hours or more as needed (6am to 2PM).
Qualifications

Required Experience and Education:

  • 2- or 4-year college degree in Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry) or similar degree OR Specialist Certification in Quinnesec's Central Lab or comparable analytical lab experience.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete team leader/sustainable leadership training at next opportunity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated leadership, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Preference for supervisory experience or fill in supervisory role.

  • Ability to give encouragement, guidance, and direction to improve safety performance.
  • Self-starter able to work effectively with minimal direct supervision.
  • Maintain knowledge of corporate, state, and federal safety rules and regulations.
  • Physical stamina and agility to conduct sample collection and testing requirements across the mill complex.
