IT Communications Network Technician II / III / Senior
Location: Prescott Service Center
At APS, our IT Communications Network Technicians keep critical energy systems running across some of Arizona's most rugged and remote terrain. This role is essential to ensuring our telecommunications and physical security infrastructure remains reliable, resilient, and safe-supporting both mission-critical operations and the customers who depend on us.
What your day would be like
You are responsible for:
- Installation & Maintenance - Deploy, configure, and maintain telecommunications and physical security systems, ensuring performance and reliability across a large service territory.
- Emergency Response - Act quickly to resolve outages or failures, minimizing downtime and restoring business-critical services.
- Testing & Inspection - Regularly test and inspect equipment and facilities to proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact operations.
- Quality Assurance - Uphold strict safety and performance standards while troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
- Collaboration - Partner with IT colleagues and field services teams to support network infrastructure and security needs across multiple sites.

Minimum Requirements
IT Communications Network Technician II | Prescott Service Center
- Associate degree in electronic technology
- AND two (2) years related experience and
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
IT Communications Network Technician III | Prescott Service Center
- Associates degree in electronic technology
- AND seven (7) years related experience and
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
IT Communications Network Technician Senior | Prescott Service Center
- Associates degree in electronic technology
- AND ten (10) years related experience and
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Knowledge of service offerings; customer service principles; various computer software applications, PCs, operating systems, and other computer-related technologies.
- Ability to install chains; operate or utilize a variety of other types of snow equipment such as snowcats, snowmobiles, and snowshoes depending upon area of assignment; and work at remote locations
- Previous work experience requiring mechanical aptitude and the safe usage of common hand tools.
- Familiarity in Drafting or Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
- Supervision of tower work crews to ensure safe work practices and quality installations.
- All technicians are expected to be available for call out 24/7days a week and to be able to work out of town or outside of primary reporting area.
ALL positions requires individuals to be capable of operating 4X4 vehicles w/ standard transmissions on primitive roads where extremes of desert heat and high altitude snow and/or ice may be encountered.
Major Accountabilities
1) Under no supervision, perform construction, maintenance and repair work on all types of radio, telecommunications, physical security, IP networking, computing and telephony equipment
2) Act as project lead on construction or maintenance projects of significant size and scope. Ensure milestones are met and provide updates on project status. Recommend modifications to project plan as needed. Represent assigned unit in projects or initiatives that involve other units.
3) Resolve failures and impairments of a moderately complex nature in a timely, effective and efficient manner.
4) Ensure corrective actions are taken to resolve system failures and impairments in a timely, effective and efficient manner.
5) Oversee the work of technicians, setting and adjusting the priorities as needed.
6) Track and report progress on assignments Provide information and/or produce reports to assist with project construction estimates as well as damage assessments reports, repair actions and implementation results.
7) Perform or oversee configuration of IP devices including addressing and routing. This may include drivers and settings of personal computers, network/file servers, printers and multi-function devices (MFD's) and wireless APs.
8) Position requires individuals to be capable of operating 4X4 vehicles w/ standard transmissions on primitive roads where extremes of desert heat and high altitude snow and/or ice may be encountered.
9) Act as team lead on construction or maintenance projects of significant size and scope.
10) Develop and provide process, system, equipment and technology training for other employees.
