Part-Time HAS Technical Reviewer
Description:
The technical reviewer supports approximately 40 HAS students participating in the online learning community using online learning management systems. Students complete a series of module assignments and technical reviewers answer questions, assess work, and provide frequent feedback. These tasks are key to participant success and retention.
Additionally, the position works collaboratively with the HAS team of education coordinators supporting the HAS activity to ensure the participants progress to meet NASA's STEM Engagement goals and outcomes. The technical reviewers provide timely and accurate information to the HAS activity team.
Major Responsibilities:
- Student Retention: Student retention remains our number one goal within the online course. Technical reviewers support students by providing prompt, individualized, constructive, and positive feedback.
- Communication Technical reviewers communicate effectively with program management, HAS education coordinators, and internal and external partners. Technical reviewers must check the online course daily to answer student questions. Communicate in a professional, courteous, conscientious, and timely manner. All communications with students must take place through the online learning management system.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Technical reviewers monitor student participation daily and use rubrics to provide feedback on STEM activities including discussion posts, 3-D drawings, student produced videos, and math activities. Lessons must be assessed within one week, and late work graded upon submission. Technical reviewers monitor forums frequently for appropriate language and respectful tone, and address infractions after consulting with HAS education coordinators.
- Senior Mentors: Technical reviewers will work with up to 5 high school students who will mentor the junior students while taking a leadership and communication course. Develop communication plan with seniors. Monitor mentorship between seniors and juniors. Review seniors' course work.
- Efficiency and Productivity: Technical reviewers create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Attend required online information sessions. Effectively apply methodology and enforce project standards. Support day-to-day operational aspects of a project working within scope, cost, and schedule by establishing milestones and priorities. Ensure procedures are followed. Support project evaluation and reporting.
- Teamwork, Professionalism, and Service: Technical reviewers encourage cooperation and collaboration to create a positive experience that exceeds the expectations of internal NASA and external STEM engagement community partners. Strive to perform to enhance the NASA STEM engagement experience for students and partners.
- Stewardship: Technical reviewers accept responsibility for the public's trust and are accountable for individual actions. Demonstrate efficient and effective use of time, equipment, and other resources. Maintain confidences and protects security of operations by keeping information confidential and equipment/facilities secure. Work in a safe manner using safety equipment and procedures as appropriate and encourage others to do the same.

Candidate must meet the following requirements and qualifications:
- US Citizen
- Bachelor's Degree, Masters preferred
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification required
- Must be certified and reside in the state of Texas
Field of Study: Education or Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics Education.
Experience: Three years successful classroom teaching experience in grades 7-12 or college level required.
Required: Must be able to commit to time frame:
- September 11, 2025 - March 22, 2026
Terms of compensation
- 1099 contract employment
- up to $3000 stipend
Salary Grade: AH
