The Electrical Engineer in the EVT group will be responsible for validating the design, performance, and reliability of Itron's hardware products through rigorous electrical testing. This role requires strong hands-on technical skills, experience with test equipment, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure products meet design specifications, safety standards, and customer expectations. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and execute test procedures for prototype and pre-production hardware (PCBs, modules, and systems).
Perform electrical validation and functional testing on new product designs (EVT, DVT, PVT phases). Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.) to characterize and troubleshoot circuits. Conduct reliability and stress testing (HALT, ALT, thermal, ESD, EMC pre-compliance, power cycling). Analyze test data, document findings, and provide detailed reports with recommendations. Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineers to identify, root cause, and resolve design issues. Support compliance and safety testing preparation (FCC, CE, UL, IEC, etc.). Maintain EVT lab equipment, test setups, and ensure adherence to safety protocols. Contribute to continuous improvement of validation processes, tools, and methodologies.
Required Skills & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 2+ years of experience in hardware validation, testing, or design. Proficiency with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQs, etc.). Experience with automation tools (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar). Knowledge of wireless communication (RF, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Wi-SUN). Strong understanding of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit fundamentals. Experience with PCB schematics, layouts, and debugging techniques. Ability to analyze large datasets, create test reports, and present results effectively. Hands-on, detail-oriented, and strong problem-solving skills/
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Experience with reliability testing methodologies (HALT, ALT, environmental stress). Familiarity with compliance standards (FCC/CE/UL/IEC). Prior experience in metering, energy, or IoT products desirable.
