Job Overview
The incumbent will install, service, or repair heating and air conditioning systems in residences or commercial establishments. This position is only open to current Stennis Space Center, NSS internal employees. Work Model: Onsite
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Applies industry standards and site-specific safety and environmental standards and procedures when performing operations, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and/or minor modifications to HVAC&R systems and controls using detailed blueprints, sketches, diagrams, manuals, maintenance task sheets, engineering design packages and standard practice instructions.
- Performs and documents work using work orders generated from a computerized maintenance management system, computerized labor/time management and accounting system and computerized refrigerant recordkeeping software utility.
- Performs field operational logs and monitors HVAC&R equipment and systems using various man-to-machine interface devices to identify and report any problems or abnormal trends to assure proper operational conditions.
- Performs preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and various functional tests to assure proper sequence of operation of systems and to perform troubleshooting and repair of HVAC&R systems and controls.
- Systematically analyzes, troubleshoots and interprets the industry standard sequence of operations associated with the following HVAC&R systems.
- Chilled Water Cooling Systems (air and water-cooled chillers and cooling towers)
- Hot Water & Steam Heating Systems (electrical and natural gas boilers)
- Chemical Water Treatment Systems/Programs (corrosion, scale and biological control)
- Light Commercial & Residential System (direct expansion, unitary packaged and split systems, computer room units, roof top units and fume hood units)
- Air Distribution Systems (air handling units and zone controls, heating ventilation units, exhaust & ventilation fan units).
- Domestic Refrigeration Systems (window units, ice machines, coolers and freezers).
- Direct Digital Control (DDC) Systems (stand-alone field microprocessors, field analog and digital sensors/actuators and controls)
Analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs routine field problems related to building automation systems failed sensors, microprocessor hardware and communication hardware by using various computer man-to-machine interface devices and associated software utilities. - Performs operations, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and/or minor modifications to the field Energy Management and Controls Systems (EMCS).
- Interfaces and works with management and shop personnel to resolve problems associated with field sensors, microprocessors and various interfacing equipment gateways hardware, firmware or software.
- To assure effective and efficient operations and proper seasonal configuration, supports the 24-hour per day/7-day per week operation of the Energy Management Control System (EMCS) and the HVAC&R operations by responding to after-hour call-outs associated with these systems.
- Must attend safety and environmental training/certification programs as required to ensure compliance with all standards and procedures.
- Must use various levels of personal protective equipment, industry standard HVAC&R tools, test equipment, man lifts and other portable equipment in the performance of assigned work tasks.
- Must use various man-to-machine interface devices such as palm pilots, pocket PC's, laptop computers, and computer work stations in the performance and documentation of assigned task.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- An Associate's Degree at an accredited college or successful completion of an accredited vocational technical program or military school in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC&R) is required.
- A minimum of four (4) years of related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
- Requires basic computer workstation, laptop computer, and/or handheld computer operating skills and a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent.
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, and a computerized maintenance management system in the performance of operations, preventive and corrective maintenance preferred.
- A minimum of four (4) years' experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of:
- Industrial, commercial, residential, and domestic HVAC&R facility utility systems and
- Mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and direct digital controls; and
- An EPA-approved CFC Universal Certification Card as required by EPA 40 CFR 82 Subpart F; and
- Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) course in field stand-alone microprocessor and sensor technology relative to building automation systems.
- Prior operation and/or maintenance of a building automation system preferred.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
- Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
- Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
- Must have, and maintain, a valid Real ID driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
Working Conditions:
- Physical effort involving able average standing, sitting, walking or detail work. Occasional risk of injury due to hazards.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Dexterity to operate office equipment as required by the position.
