Function:

Operations Job Summary:The Operations Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient production and transport of site-wide ammonia, granular urea, DEF, UAN and MNA. This individual is a key member of the site leadership team providing oversight of daily production activities including safety, quality, cost management, employee development, and process optimization, while ensuring production and site-wide goals are met in a safe and environmentally sound manner. He or she is directly responsible for overseeing management of Operations, Maintenance, and Product Handling. He or she supports other departments such as EHS, HR, IT, Procurement, Accounting, etc. Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Effectively selects, organizes, and develops management talent necessary for CF to meet overall business objectives.
  • Set departmental expectations for excellence in safety and environmental performance and maintain overall responsibility for the effectiveness of these efforts.
  • Plans and directs short-term and long term objectives for the site ensuring that the objectives are a subset of the broader organizational objectives. Setting or overseeing the development of safety, environmental, production, maintenance and cost control objectives is a key responsibility.
  • Manages or collaborates with business stakeholders such as maintenance, engineering, environmental, safety, and product handling departments to identify opportunities to optimize and improve performance.
  • Develops and adhere to a set of performance expectations commonly referred to as the "annual budget". Routinely compare actual expenditures and production to documented metrics, and ensure effective management of each.
  • Supports development of the Donaldsonville capital budget business plan. Insures appropriate short-term and long term investments are made to maintain a safe, operationally efficient, and reliable facility.
  • Must be an effective member of the crisis management team and must be capable of executing the role of company spokesman.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with the local community.
  • Ensures that employees and community are safe by safely operating the facility.
  • Communicates and coordinates with appropriate personnel to ensure coordination with sales, marketing, and product quality and transport issues.
  • Supports CF's effort to develop "operating standards" that will use the collective expertise of CF to improve each site's operating and safety performance.
  • Continually seeks to improve plant operation and profitability.
  • Must be able to effectively cover and act on behalf of the General Manager during his/her absence.

Internal Controls:

Establishes and implements processes and procedures to meet departmental internal controls requirements. Works with internal controls department to identify deficiencies in existing processes/procedures, the need for new ones, and that they are being followed as designed. Develops and implements corrective actions with regard to department internal controls as necessary.

Successful incumbents will have:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university is required.
  • Ten or more years of engineering, maintenance, or production related experience in chemical manufacturing is required. A process and/or maintenance background in nitrogen fertilizer production (ammonia, urea, and UAN) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in maintaining an exemplary safety culture that clearly strives for an accident free workplace.
  • Five or more years of management excellence is required.
  • A demonstrated understanding of CF's corporate direction ("big picture") and the desire to meet or exceed those goals.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills required. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with personnel of all backgrounds.
  • Strong management skills required; including team building, decision making, and prioritizing.
  • A working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations applicable to nitrogen fertilizer manufacturing is required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office software.
  • Has or can acquire a transportation worker identification credential (TWIC).
  • The ability to prove drug and alcohol free at random or for cause.
