Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.

This position is responsible for the management of the Bank's accounting functions, providing personal leadership and strategic oversight to daily activities. Performs at a high level of expertise and ability to manage a team of associates who process, maintain, and review financial statements. Guides complex, multi-step processes like accounting close, financial reporting, and accounting efforts within mergers, acquisitions, and audits. Works closely with senior leadership in aligning the output and strategy of Corporate Accounting with wider Bank goals.


Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Reporting Oversight - Manages multiple functional areas with a broader scope of responsibility, including direction of assigned teams, projects, and activities. Oversees activities and participates in special initiatives such as implementation of new accounting standards, mergers, acquisitions, and conversions. Develops analysis and reporting methods for the work group. Tests business continuity plans and manages the internal control review process. Assists in tactical efforts to align function strategy with wider organizational goals.
  • Managerial Functions - Establishes and monitors expectations to achieve company and department goals. Makes appropriate changes to department policies, procedures, and efficiencies in order to meet objectives. Manages the performance, training, and evaluation of assigned staff. Maximizes team achievements by providing professional development.
  • System Support - Creates and implements updates to the technical accounting system. Ensures financial platforms are functioning properly to support month-end close, external, and internal reporting requirements.
  • Collaboration - Partners with associates, business units, and managers to support daily accounting operations. Works closely with auditors and regulatory agencies in evaluating financial data and department processes. May represent Corporate Accounting in wider initiatives or in collaboration with senior leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis and Management/Leadership OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis and Management/Leadership

Preferred Education: Advanced Degree Preferred Area of Experience: Experience in lending in a large, diverse organization

License or Certification Type: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Preferred Skill(s): Ability to effectively manage and coordinate multiple activities and projects, Knowledge of accounting and automated financial systems, Detailed understanding of accounting guidance, GAAP and SOX controls, Problem solver and strategic focus, Critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint) skills.
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft
  • Hyperion experience
  • Experience in financial services (banking or insurance)
  • Experience managing a team
