DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Highway Foreman 2, you will be responsible for supervising a highway maintenance crew in the completion of manual labor assignments and the operation of heavy equipment to perform standard or routine maintenance and repair projects on or around assigned highways. Specific duties entail planning, scheduling, and providing direct guidance to equipment operators and laborers using a variety of heavy construction equipment and hand tools to perform a full range of general highway maintenance activities. Maintenance tasks may include patching, crack sealing, shoulder stabilization and repair, installation and cleaning of drainage pipes, guide rail installation, roadway sweeping, litter pickup, filling potholes, roadway widening, complaint investigation and resolution, and directing emergency response to snow and ice, storm damage, or vehicle accidents.

Within this role, is it essential to maintain clear and accurate records of field work activities and immediately report any unusual occurrences, crew injuries, equipment accidents, or damage and complete follow-up documentation as required. Safety is a top priority, therefore you will also be responsible for training crew members in the proper use of tools and equipment, proper maintenance manual methods and procedures, and ensuring that materials and workmanship remain in accordance with accepted specifications and standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Hours may vary and overtime may be required during winter weather events.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the performance of lead work or skilled tradesman duties on a highway maintenance or construction project; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
