Supervises plumbing staff and projects, provides maintenance support, and completes plumbing projects.

SCHEDULE: 4 days/week: Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday 7a-5:30p

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Supervises and coordinates plumber and steamfitter staff activities and installs and maintains plumbing and gas systems.
  • Determines appropriate work procedures, prepares work schedules, and coordinates project activities with other foremen, outside contractors, and vendors.
  • Evaluates completed work to ensure that it conforms to proper procedures and quality and safety standards.
  • Hires, trains, and evaluates staff.
  • Completes list of work done, hours worked, materials used, and maintains daily time sheets; prepares and reports time and production records as input to budgeting process.
  • Installs and maintains plumbing and gas systems including campus piping, pumps, underground utilities, water veins, and underground gas piping; cuts, threads, and bends pipes and tests and inspects systems for leaks and malfunctions.
  • Selects plumbing methods, material requirements, and suppliers based on quality and price.
  • Interprets building layout diagrams or blueprints to plan new or modified installations and evaluates equipment or systems for hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Maintains shop facilities and equipment required for maintenance repairs and safety.
  • Utilizes Boys Town vehicle to transport supplies and equipment to work locations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of a broad range of construction and remodeling plumbing practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of repairs and replacements of municipal water systems, low and high pressure steam, and natural gas systems.
  • Mathematical skills to calculate specifications and costs and ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to successfully lead a team of associates.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals in an articulate, professional manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience including all phases of plumbing work required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.
  • City of Omaha Plumbing or Steamfitter License required.
  • On-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support and many work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Vocational training preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Moderate to heavy physical activity having to stoop, bend, kneel, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance.Work in difficult locations such as crawl spaces, attics, roofs and closets. May work at heights of 10 feet or more. Time may be spent outdoors where temperatures may vary from excessive heat to extreme cold or in a shop environment, which includes dust, noise, and exposure chemicals.
