UCSF Women's Health Obstetrics Services offers an alternative program to receiving prenatal care called Centering Pregnancy (CP). CP is a multi-faceted model of group care that integrates the three major components of care: health assessment, education and support. Eight to twelve women with estimated due dates that fall within a close range convene on a regular basis, participate in a facilitated discussion, learn basic self-care during pregnancy and develop a support network with other group members. Each Pregnancy group meets for a total of 10 sessions throughout pregnancy and early postpartum. The practitioner, co-facilitator and guest speakers, within the group space, complete full prenatal appointments with standard physical health assessments as well as an educational component.
Through this unique model of care, women are empowered to choose health-promoting behaviors. The group facilitation has proven positive health outcomes for pregnancies, specifically increased birth weight, gestational age of mothers that deliver preterm, and extended breastfeeding initiation and retention. One of the other benefits is the satisfaction expressed by both the women and their providers on the community building and group dynamics
Under the direction of the Practice Manager and Administrative Director of OBGYN Mission Bay and guided by the policies and procedures of the department and Ambulatory Services, the Centering Pregnancy Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating faculty and resident centering groups.
This includes working with the providers to develop dates for centering groups, distributing communication to the practice location for group dates, ordering and maintaining par levels of supplies for all Centering groups at the various locations which may include, but not limited to: Mission Bay- 4th Street, Mission Bay -Owens Street, and Mount Zion locations. This role also includes the recruitment of co-facilitators, tracking centering expenses, and assisting with the training and development of new and existing practice co-facilitators. In addition, this position, may co-facilitate groups.
The Centering Pregnancy Coordinator will also be responsible for understanding the elements of forming Centering Pregnancy groups as indicated by the Centering Health Institute (CHI). This role will facilitate recruitment, group formation, organization of support services and materials, data tracking of Centering statistics related to individual sessions and group trends. With the Administrative Director and Practice Manager of OB Mission Bay, the Centering Pregnancy Coordinator may help with analysis on challenges and opportunities for improvement in all aspects of the program. The Centering Pregnancy Coordinator will also be involved in annual accreditation renewals and site approvals.
The Centering Pregnancy Coordinator is responsible for the maintenance of all routine clerical operations and communications. They will adhere to the UCSF House and Telephone Standards and will be sensitive to the needs of patients, staff and providers at all times. The Centering Pregnancy Coordinator is a team player who works closely with others and who is flexible in dealing with the changing priorities. S/he is a self-reliant individual who synthesizes his/her knowledge of practice operations in order to problem-solve, prioritize and facilitate complex transactions in the course of his/her daily activities. The Centering Pregnancy Coordinator responds to telephone calls from patients who wish to schedule appointments, request prescription refills, obtain test results, seek medical advice, or communicate with their health care providers through APeX. They will accurately document patient requests and forwards to appropriate practice/staff/providers. The Centering Pregnancy Coordinator has excellent oral and written communication skills; can work well with minimal supervision in a complex, fast-pace and challenging environment. S/he is required to comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards and is sensitive to the needs of patients, staff and providers at all times. The PC3 may be expected to assist/cross-cover with answering calls to the OBGYN phone bank.
This position makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent customer service, facilitating, and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency. The PC 3 is required to work at any UCSF campus within the city of San Francisco, as needed and scheduled.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $31.91 - $45.70 (Hourly Rate). Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent with four years related experience; or college degree and 6 months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successfully passes fingerprinting protocol and is approved to be a cash collector
- Strong computer skills, including basic keyboarding skills, and experience with at least two Office-type software programs (i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel). Proven ability to navigate through multiple patient records systems. Able to sit at a computer terminal with telephone headphones for extended period of time.
- Ability to analyze situations, prioritizes, and develops solutions and makes recommendations.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to use good judgment and work independently, at times under the pressure of deadlines
- Ability to access situations prioritizes workload, develop solutions and make recommendations.
- Excellent customer service and communication/interpersonal skills, both over the telephone and directly.
- Able to sit at a computer terminal with telephone headphones for extended periods of time.
- Basic math skills required.
- Proven ability to deal with a wide variety of individuals;
- Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with patients.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong writing skills to include the ability to compose, edit, and proof a wide variety of documents.
- Demonstrated administrative/office coordination skills.

- Within six months of start date, based upon completion of training, the Supervisor, completes the proficiency checklist with the employee. This includes the following areas if applicable

Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in health care (may include medical, dental or veterinary) in the following areas: patient scheduling, insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, or patient financial services.
- Prior experience with appointment, ancillary service or surgical scheduling or a combination of all three.
- Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, and Russian) strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with EPIC.
