Job Description:Laboratory Technician

Qualifications:

  • Citizenship: US Citizen or Perm Resident.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related degree.
  • Must have minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Work history that demonstrates some mechanical aptitude and/or other skills relevant to the job duties described.
  • Must be able to work on DoD contracts involving explosives within the site BATF license.
  • Must qualify to handle explosives under the Fairfield site BATF Explosive Handlers permit.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs


Job Duties (On the job training to be provided):

  • Preparing specimens from Class 1.3 explosives for testing
  • Perform acceptance testing of ingredients used in propellants and pyrotechnics; size analysis, moisture content, thermal expansion, density, equivalent weight, moisture content, etc.
  • Performing tests on specimens of Class 1.3 explosives; including tensile strength, density, heat output, and burning rate
  • Perform tests on specimens of small amounts of Class 1.1 or unknown explosives
  • Perform ignition hazard tests; impact, friction, spark, and heat
  • Organizing test data and completing test report forms
  • Assist Development Engineers with assemblies of devices
  • Keeps laboratory supplies ready
  • Maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Marinating a safe, clean, orderly work environment
  • Completing regular training in safety and work practices
