What to Expect
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Project Engineer to join a world-class team of engineers responsible for designing, building, and deploying vendor and Tesla in-house inline metrology and inspection systems that make up the Tesla Battery Cell and Energy factories, manufacturing our groundbreaking Tesla-designed 4680 battery cells at high speed. The projects involve development of equipment and automation for various metrology/inspection tools based on various measurement techniques which are to be tested, scaled up, and deployed to factories. These projects are highly interdisciplinary and require collaboration and coordination across various engineering teams and global locations. The Technical Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting the engineering team by managing the project schedules, required documentations, report outs, and supporting the engineering team throughout the entire project lifecycle from project conceptualization until manufacturing readiness for Tesla scale mass production.

- Develop statement of work, project schedule, defining resources, and communicate effectively with all key stakeholders for the project to achieve successful execution and meet the goals and requirements
- Develop and manage detailed project timelines using Microsoft Project, JIRA, or equivalent project management tools, ensuring task dependencies, critical paths, and resource allocations are optimized
- Lead the execution of engineering projects from concept through manufacturing, logistics, and installation
- Identify all major risks and dependencies;manage and work to reduce them accordingly. Track and eliminate blockers to keep your projects moving at Tesla speed
- Communicate with stakeholders across a wide variety of teams inside of Cell Engineering, including process engineering, manufacturing engineering, production/operations, construction/facilities, and controls engineering
- Deliver clear, concise, and data-driven report-outs including progress summaries, risk assessments, and action plans
- Maintain organized project documentation and status dashboards to support visibility and transparency
- Lead coordination, documentation, and maintaining all the needed documents to support successful scaling up for future factories
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience. PMP or equivalent project management certification would be a plus
- 1+ years of experience in a project engineering role with equipment, process, or metrology/inspection/vision systems. Manufacturing engineering experience on a large-scale factory commissioning projects is highly desired
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, JIRA, or other professional-grade project management software for scheduling, tracking progress, and reporting. Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and engineering documentation platforms
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, technical schematics, and e-drawings
- Experience working on deployment and maintaining of metrology and inspection systems
- Familiarity with international shipping processes, logistics coordination, and customs documentation and understanding of Incoterms and export compliance regulations
