Position: Customs Brokerage Specialist
Location: Torrance, CA
Working Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Classified: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Direct-Hire
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Customs Brokerage Specialist to handle import clearance operations and ensure smooth, compliant, and timely delivery of international shipments. The role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of customs procedures, and excellent communication skills for client interaction and coordination with regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and file customs entries (formal, informal, warehouse, ISF) and ensure all required documentation is accurate and compliant with U.S. Customs regulations.
Classify imported goods under the correct HTS codes, determine applicable duty rates, and confirm proper valuation.
Review shipping and commercial documents for accuracy and compliance with CBP and Partner Government Agencies such as FDA and USDA.
Serve as the primary contact for clients, providing updates on clearance status, compliance requirements, and addressing inquiries promptly.
Monitor shipment progress, identify and resolve customs delays or holds, and coordinate with carriers and internal teams for timely delivery.
Maintain accurate records of all customs transactions in accordance with U.S. Customs record-keeping requirements.
Stay informed of regulatory and trade policy changes, ensuring company and client compliance with current import laws.
Prepare and issue invoices for brokerage services, duties, taxes, and other logistics-related charges.
Verify and reconcile vendor invoices with client billing to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
Support billing operations by maintaining clear documentation and communicating with clients and partners as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience in customs brokerage or freight forwarding; experience with a Japanese-affiliated forwarder is a plus.
Strong understanding of U.S. Customs regulations (19 CFR), Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), and Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements.
Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) credential preferred but not required.

The base pay range above represents the low and high end of the base compensation range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual base compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, actual experience, and job performance.
