Job Summary
Under general supervision, this position will provide support and maintenance to various Athenaeum facilities and grounds and will perform miscellaneous custodial duties as required. This is an Essential Reporting position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as essential reporting has essential job skills that are needed for response and recovery and is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible.
Essential Job Duties
- Provides maintenance services, repairs, rehabilitation, renovation, preventative maintenance, and responds to service/repair calls in a swift and timely manner; performs planned maintenance on various dining and hotel operations equipment.
- Responds to customer service requests; trouble shoots and diagnoses plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning problems. Determines appropriate corrective action, escalates more complex problems to the Hotel Operations Manager and/or Physical Plant.
- Performs minor plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning repairs including faucets, toilets, drain work, garbage disposal, minor carpentry, carpet and furniture repair, door locks, minor interior and exterior painting, minor electrical repairs, replace light bulbs and fixtures and reset circuit breakers.
- May assist Physical Plant staff in facilities repairs and services.
- Performs custodial duties in club public areas such as banquet and dining facilities, restrooms, offices and meeting rooms; cleans and polishes floors and carpet, cleans fixtures, cabinets, counters, wash windows.
- Performs cleaning, sweeping and other tasks in outside common areas and grounds surrounding facility.
- Performs cleaning tasks in all assigned areas according to prescribed standards of cleanliness and in accordance with Institute and regulatory agencies safety standards and practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Hotel Operations Manager.
Basic Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years' experience working in an environment involving facilities or general maintenance, and/or custodial/grounds maintenance.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must have a valid California driver's license and maintain it throughout the course of employment.
- Must be able to adhere to the Institute's motor vehicle policy.
- Experience and knowledge of basic maintenance services along with exposure and familiarity with one or more skilled trades.
- Ability to apply general knowledge of basic hand/power tools and equipment. Ability to solve both routine and semi-routine problems.
- Effective communications skills and the ability to interact with and assist members, guests and other Athenaeum staff.
- Must be in good health, without physical limitations to perform all duties and responsibilities of the job.
- Must be able to stand, sit, reach, grasp, squat and bend for extended periods of time; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis such as: lifting and moving tables; maintenance tools; electrical and plumbing supplies, must be able to climb ladders.
- Applicant must be available to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.

Hiring Range
$21.00 - $24.00 per hour
