What You'll Do

As a Grants and Contracts Manager on the Campus Grants Management Team (CGMT), you'll lead a team of administrators and manage a portfolio of complex research awards. You'll be a strategic partner to faculty, guiding them through the full lifecycle of grant management-from proposal development to award closeout.

This is more than a transactional role. You'll be a subject-matter expert, problem solver, and collaborator, ensuring compliance and excellence in research administration.



Key Responsibilities
Pre-Award (30%)

  • Advise faculty on proposal requirements and submission strategies.
  • Develop and review budgets, justifications, and sub-recipient documentation.
  • Ensure proposals meet agency and university guidelines and deadlines.
  • Coordinate submissions through SPS and ORS, ensuring institutional compliance.



Post-Award (30%)

  • Manage large, multi-disciplinary projects and provide ongoing faculty support.
  • Reconcile budgets, submit cost transfers, rebudgets, and no-cost extensions.
  • Monitor sub-recipient budgets and ensure timely closeout.
  • Maintain financial records and ensure compliance with Duke and sponsor policies.



Leadership & Team Management (40%)

  • Supervise a team of Grants and Contracts Administrators.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and high-quality service.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty and staff on grants and contracts issues.


What You Bring


  • Bachelor's degree required; research or grants certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in grants/contracts or leadership.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) preferred.
  • Completion of Duke's Research Administration Academy (RAA) and Advanced Grants Management (AGM) within required timelines.

This is a remote position. All Duke University remote workers must reside in one of the following states or districts:

Anticipated Pay Range

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $59,829.00 to USD $96,900.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
