Essential Job Functions
This position is responsible for the repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of ASU facility roofs other than residence facilities.

Roof types include, but are not limited to, standing seam metal, shingle, built-up, modified bitumen, slate, and single ply EPDM, TPO, and PVC membranes.

Duties include replacement of small sections of roofing, installation and repairs of flashing, troubleshooting and repair of leaks, and repairs of gutters and downspouts.

This position will assist other shops as needed, ie: pm, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in roofing construction and repair for PVC, TPO, EPDM, metal, built-up, modified bitumen, and shingle systems.

Knowledge of the selection and application of sealants.

Knowledge of flashing systems and assemblies.

Basic computer knowledge, skills and abilities.

Perform as a team member.

Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, and lift equipment.

Ability to operate university-owned vehicles with a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Commercial Driver's License endorsement, this may be mandatory at a later date.

Experience with hot air welders

Graduation from high school

Six (6) years roofing experience to include shingle, metal, single ply and built up roofing systems

Two (2) years experience in at least one other major building trade, preferably experience in multiple building trades

Work Schedule/Hours
8 hour workday schedule with primary hours varying within the following time frame: 6:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Weekend work and hours other than normal schedule may be required to accomplish assigned duties. Position is subject to call in, call back or stay over on off schedule hours and weekends should emergencies occur.

This position is subject to Primary and Secondary call back schedules.

Designated as MANDATORY, this position is expected to be available for work during University emergencies, closings and adverse weather conditions.

Physical Demands of Position
Employee will be subject to extremes of heat, cold, dust, and dirt on a daily basis. Heavy lifting in excess of 100 pounds required on a limited basis. Position requires working from ladders, platforms, scaffolds, and lift equipment at various heights on a daily basis. Call back situations may necessitate emergency repairs in extremes of inclement weather.

Has a thorough and extensive understanding of programs, concepts and practices in the most complex building systems trades area as well as a general understanding of one or more different trades areas.

Problem Solving: Anticipates and proactively pursues facilities-related maintenance issues and/or problems. Recognizes inherent problems with procedures and practices and makes suggestions for improvement. May include management, peers, and subordinates in the decision-making process to gain the support and acceptance of all parties.

Coordination-Work: Determines project/assignment by breaking them down into tasks. Sets objectives and prioritizes activities and tasks, adjusts priorities when appropriate. Takes advantage of available resources (personnel, processes, departments, and tools) to complete work efficiently. Anticipates obstacles/roadblocks and prepares alternative plans to ensure timely task accomplishment. Uses time effectively and does not let distractions interfere with completion of the job/project.
