Dutton + Associates, a Timmons Group company (D+A), is seeking a full-time, entry-level Architectural History Technicianfor ourCultural Resources Groupbased in ourRichmond, VAoffice location. The Architectural History Technician position is responsible for assisting the architectural history team with investigations involving historic buildings, structures, landscapes, and a wide variety of related property types. They will work collaboratively with other members of the architectural history team and the overall cultural resources group to ensure that project goals are met.

Some regional overnight travel is expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting historical surveys, and preparing detailed architectural and historical reports and conducting archival research as necessary
  • Assembling historic resource site file forms, site maps, and photographs
  • Evaluating the significance of historic resources according to established criteria, such as the National Register of Historic Places
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills/Requirementsof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • B.A. in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field from a recognized program; graduate degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation preferred
  • 1-2 years previous experience in Cultural Resource Management preferred
  • Possess a strong understanding of architectural styles, construction techniques, and the historical context of buildings and landscapes
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills and ability to communicate and interact with other members of the team, clients, and the public
  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks while meeting project deadlines and adhering to project budgets
  • Experience in conducting land records research including chain-of-title, property taxes, and wills
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaborate on a team
  • Experience using ArcGIS preferred
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Ability to read and navigate maps
