Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Grants Administrator for the Center for NeuroMetabolism at the Child Health Institute of New Jersey at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Business Administrator, the Grants Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support of all projects, grants, contracts and other restricted accounts and related functions associated with research, sponsored programs, and restricted funds activities for the Center for NeuroMetabolism ( CNM). The primary responsibility of the Grants Administrator is pre-award and post-award administration of grants, contracts and other restricted funds for the Center for NeuroMetabolism. Ensures sponsored research activities are in compliance with the policies and procedures of Rutgers University and federal, state, foundation, corporate and other agencies. A priority of this position will be pre-award functions.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Assists in the preparation and submission of proposals to federal, state, foundation, corporate, and other sponsors.
  • Ensures compliance with Rutgers University policies and procedures (Office of Research and Sponsored Programs [ORSP], Office of Corporate Contracts) and with external sponsor requirements.
  • Processes all required documentation through the Research Administration and Proposal Submission System (RAPSS).
  • Provides guidance to faculty, administrators, and staff on grant applications.
  • Prepares budgets in collaboration with Principal Investigators (PIs).
  • Assists with the development of internal policies and procedures related to proposals and applications.
  • Provides budget status reports, transaction reports, projections, and other financial analyses to PIs, Business Administrators, Department Chairs, and the RWJMS Finance Office.
  • Reconciles accounts and ensures expenditures are accurate and allowable.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Communication & Development, Biomedical Research, or a related field, plus five (5) years of related relevant experience and sponsored programs administration, ideally in an academic environment.
  • Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and expertise in Federal and State agency regulations, policies, procedures, and laws applicable to sponsored programs activities.
  • Understanding of proposal development, funding mechanisms, Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, and other grant-related processes.
  • Demonstrated strong service orientation. Proficiency in computer programs including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of communication and development..
  • Familiarity with achieving superior performance in a unionized environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be comfortable working in a research laboratory environment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, or walking during experimental procedures.
  • Frequent computer use for data analysis, documentation, and writing.
  • May need to travel within campus for meetings, training sessions, or collaborative projects.


Work Environment:

  • Research laboratory and office setting, moderate noise levels.
  • Must pass employee health clearance, TB test, and required safety training.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols and procedures when handling laboratory animals, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Occasional participation in scientific conferences, workshops, and seminars may be required.
