Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
The mission of The Museum of the Southeast American Indian is to educate and serve the public about the prehistory, history, culture, art and contemporary issues of American Indians, with special emphasis on the Native American communities of Robeson County, of North Carolina and of the American Southeast; to conduct scholarly research; to collect and preserve the material culture of Native America; to encourage American Indian artists and crafts persons; and to cooperate on a wide range of research and service projects with other institutions and agencies concerned with American Indians.
Primary Purpose of Position
This essential administrative support associate will coordinate and perform administrative and clerical tasks for the museum. He/she will be the initial point of contact for the museum and will coordinate museum activities and engagement throughout campus, with visitors, and stakeholders.
Job Description
Customer Service
1. This position requires the ability to interact positively in person, via email, over the phone.
2. Position anticipates, identifies, and understands the needs of museums staff, museum visitors, students, faculty and staff as it relates to museum operations.
3. Orients visitors to the museum and shares information about exhibitions and programs.
4. Serves as a greeter for all museum tours.

Clerical
1. Maintains office procedures such as filing, reviewing and distributing mail, corresponding via the main museum email, designing and managing procedures and checklists, forms, records keeping, and database entry.
2. Manages schedule of events, tours, and maintains museum calendar.
3. Maintains museum balances and budgets on a weekly bases.
4. Creates and processes requisition via Bravecart and monitors budgets for director.
5. Monitors and orders supplies and equipment as directed.
6. Manages museums social media pages and updates regularly.

Museum

1. Monitors the museum to ensure all exhibits and features are in working order.
2. Visually inspects for lighting, cleanliness of museum, and other issues.
3. Maintains cleanliness and supplies in the Children's Discover Center.

Other Duties

1. Manages the museum store. This includes purchasing inventory and merchandising.
2. Exhibition and program planning, installation, and collections care.
3. Responsible for continuing to learn about issues, trends, and best practices in the museum industry.
Management Preference
Familiarity with American Indian Studies, especially American Indian Tribes and Communities throughout the Southeast region of the United States.
Previous Administrative Experience
Familiarity with the museum field
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Comfortable with engaging with visitors, giving tours and speaking in front of large groups
Lic or Certification required by statute or regulation
