The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Technician B will support the NIEHS-funded project on menstrual health by conducting laboratory experiments to evaluate metal leaching from menstrual products. Core responsibilities include preparing and digesting samples, performing leaching protocols with simulated biological fluids, operating analytical instrumentation for trace element analysis, and processing the analytical data. The technician will document experimental workflows, maintain accurate laboratory records, and contribute to reports, presentations, and manuscripts for internal and external collaborators.

In addition to the specific project, the Technician B will assist with other laboratory projects as needed, which may involve sample preparation, instrument operation, method development, and data management across a variety of environmental and biomedical research studies. Essential functions include laboratory-based experimental work, data analysis, and adherence to quality control and safety standards, ensuring high-quality results across multiple ongoing research initiatives.

This is a one (1) year temporary position from date of hire, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities



  • Prepare and conduct leaching experiments on menstrual products using simulated biological fluids, following standardized protocols and quality control procedures (40%)
  • Conduct sample preparation and digestion of biological and environmental samples for elemental analysis, following established SOPs and QA/QC protocols (20%).
  • Document and organize experimental workflows, maintain accurate laboratory records, and support preparation of data for presentations, manuscripts, and donor reports (25%)
  • Process and interpret analytical data, apply QA/QC criteria, and prepare summary tables, figures, and reports for internal and external collaborators (15%).


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, Chemistry, or a related field, with at least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of standard laboratory procedures, quality control practices, and safety protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation, including operation and associated software.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out routine and specialized laboratory techniques with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience with experimental design, method development, and interpretation of laboratory results in environmental or biomedical research.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization using R or similar statistical software.
