Description

As a premier supplier of flight-critical mechanical systems and structures, we support programs ranging from rotorcraft and fixed-wing aircraft to satellites and space vehicles.

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental compliance programs within a high-performance aerospace manufacturing environment.

You'll ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (including OSHA, EPA, and DOT), drive continuous improvement initiatives, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities



  • Lead new hire safety orientations and escort visitors, temps, and contractors to ensure proper site safety onboarding.
  • Conduct incident and near-miss investigations; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee employee health programs, including respirator fit testing, audiograms, vision checks, and FAA driver pool compliance.
  • Support environmental compliance through stormwater sampling, data collection, and report preparation.
  • Maintain and update EHS procedures, safety training, and standard operating instructions.
  • Provide technical support for programs involving hazardous materials (e.g., hexavalent chromium).
  • Ensure facility compliance with applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead the Safety Committee and conduct regular toolbox talks and job safety walks.
  • Administer workers' compensation claims, OSHA reporting (300 log), and injury tracking.
  • Maintain fire extinguisher inspections, eyewash station checks, and forklift safety records.
  • Coordinate forklift and crane training, certification, incident reporting, and inspections.
  • Manage PPE distribution (safety glasses, safety boots) and maintain inventory.
  • Respond to on-site emergencies and ensure emergency response plans are current and tested.
  • Perform administrative tasks including purchase orders, vendor quotes, and ordering safety-related supplies.



What You Bring

Required Experience & Skills:



  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment managing EHS programs
  • Familiarity with OSHA and other occupational safety standards
  • Knowledge of forklift and crane safety regulations and inspection procedures
  • Understanding of environmental programs such as stormwater compliance
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to lead by example
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a closely related field
  • 1-3 years of technical experience in EHS program management including hazardous materials, fire/life safety, and compliance audits


Certifications:



  • DOT/RCRA Hazardous Waste Manifest Training (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Valid California Driver's License (required)

Pay Range depending on experience: $65K - 90K



Position Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in managing safety and compliance programs in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of occupational safety regulations
  • Knowledge of forklift training and inspection standards
  • Knowledge of crane training and rigging inspection standards
  • Knowledge of environmental programs for hazardous materials and storm water


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelor's degree in industrial safety, public health or a closely related field.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of technical experience in environmental health and safety program management such as: environmental compliance, fire-life safety, occupational safety, hazardous materials


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS



  • DOT/RCRA Hazardous waste manifest training (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Valid CA driver's license (required)


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulatory documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and regulatory bodies. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must be proficient in basic computer skills and MS Office programs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited resources exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Ability and willingness to utilize a respirator as needed.

  • The noise level in the manufacturing work environment may occasionally be moderate to loud.
