Job Description Summary:

Our Group Leaders are hands-on technical leaders who drive innovation while developing the next generation of engineering talent. We're seeking an accomplished engineer with distinguished expertise in microsystems integration, someone who can both lead and contribute at the highest level.
This is not a purely administrative role. It's an opportunity for a proven technical leader to guide a team of engineers, shaping our future in microsystems assembly and packaging, and influence strategic decisions that impact national missions.

About the Role

As a Group Leader, you will serve as both player and coach, providing day-to-day technical direction while mentoring and developing a high-performing engineering team. You'll ensure Draper has the people, tools, and capabilities to deliver on our most complex customer challenges, and you'll personally contribute to advancing technical excellence within your area.

You will also collaborate across the organization, connecting with program offices, adjacent technical groups, and external partners to identify opportunities, evolve our technology roadmap, and shape Draper's long-term investments in microsystems integration.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers and technicians engaged in microsystems assembly, packaging, and integration.
* Serve as a technical authority, contributing directly to complex work involving micron- and die-scale microfabrication, precision alignment, bonding, metrology, reliability, and environmental compatibility.
* Define and advance the group's strategic roadmap, aligning technical capabilities with our organizational goals and customer needs.
* Collaborate across engineering, operations, and program management to integrate microsystems capabilities into the broader mission portfolio.
* Shape future investment decisions in capital equipment, processes, and personnel development to position Draper as a national leader in advanced microsystems manufacturing.
* Lead workforce development activities including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management to sustain a culture of technical excellence.

What You Bring

* Recognized technical depth in microsystems engineering, micro-assembly, or advanced packaging, ideally at the system or die level.
* A track record of leading or managing engineering teams in research, development, or production environments.
* The ability to translate strategic vision into technical execution, balancing innovation with delivery.
* Deep familiarity with industry standards and emerging technologies in microfabrication, materials, and precision assembly.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities
* Manage administrative details and career development for group members.
* Convey relevant information from management to group members.
* Lead, mentor, build depth their area of expertise. and conduct performance evaluations of group members.
* Maintain awareness of staffing requirements, write job requisitions (responsibilities and required qualifications) for hiring as required, review and disposition incoming resumes, conduct interviews.
* Serve as Lead Subject Matter Expert for Area of specialty.
* Shape Draper's technology offerings and open new business areas based on program and technical experience.
* Analyze Draper strategy and work with management to build capability in key areas that align Draper's capabilities with customer's strategic priorities.

Skills/Abilities
* Excellent communication and written skills.

* Excellent ability with presenting technical material to various levels of the engineering organization and customers.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications.
* Strong ability to supervise a team of 10-20

Education
Requires a degree in Engineering or related discipline

Experience
10+ years of experience in the engineering; design, development, and management of complex systems.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is

$100,000.00 - $250,000.00

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Union ranges will be in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement's approved rates by location and role.
