The Donaldson internship program provides innovative students with meaningful, hands-on experience in a collaborative industry environment. Through real-world projects, mentorship, and development opportunities, we aim to support career growth and build a talent pipeline aligned with our values and goals. This internship takes place in Dixon, IL during an 10-12-week period.

A Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Donaldson Company participates and contributes in process and product modifications, standards, and improvements through knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes, while developing acumen to increase product quality, output, and cost effectiveness. You'll learn to utilize lean tools and thinking in improving value streams, conduct workflow analysis, and lead process improvement and change within the organization.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work with a mentor to justify new equipment purchases and upgrades, primarily focusing on Assembly Stations, their controls, and new technologies.

  • Conduct time studies, routing reviews, and labor utilization in the assembly process to reduce waste and touch points.

  • Assist in the design and implementation of new products and equipment to build those products using the latest technology and ensure reliability is brought into our processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.

  • College coursework or prior internship experience around the lean manufacturing environment, including changing processes by using lean tools, techniques, and data.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Electrical and mechanical hands-on experience, either from prior internships, collegiate student organizations, applied university projects or hobby.

  • Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and TS 16949:2002.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours when needed.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Relocation: This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Hourly Pay Range: $20.00 - 27.00, depending on projected undergraduate graduation date, educational degree in progress and major of study upon time of hire.

This position is overtime eligible as per state and federal regulations.
