Position Summary:
Brown Jug, a leading premium retailer of wine, beer, and spirits in Alaska, is seeking results-driven, operations-focused Rural Department Lead. This individual will fulfill customer orders placed online or by e-mail through written order forms. This role is responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, delivering excellent customer service, and maintaining compliance with all Alaska Marijuana and Alcohol Control Board (AMCO) regulations governing rural orders.
The Rural Department Lead will train and coach team members, maintain accurate records, and ensure that all procedures are followed correctly and consistently. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management
- Build and maintain a positive and professional team culture.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
- Ensure all required training is completed on time.
- Model professionalism in appearance, demeanor, and communication.
Customer Service
- Provide outstanding customer support via e-mail and phone.
- Resolve customer issues promptly and escalate to Senior Management when needed.
- Monitor customer experience and identify opportunities for improvement.
Operations
- Oversee all Rural Orders Department functions, including order intake, processing, packaging, and shipment.
- Ensure orders are completed accurately in the POS system and properly labeled for delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of delivery areas and identify opportunities to expand the customer base.
- Coordinate inventory needs with the Store Manager.
- Keep the department clean, organized, and compliant with all standards.
- Perform or oversee physical tasks such as loading, unloading, and sorting orders when required.
Financial Accountability
- Assist in meeting department financial goals through effective labor planning, inventory management, and process efficiency.
- Adjust scheduling to balance labor costs with service needs.
- Support Senior Management in identifying efficiencies and process improvements.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to AMCO requirements and all applicable laws.
- Enforce company policies related to social responsibility, loss prevention, and occupational health and safety.
- Maintain current certifications (TAP/TIPS/Rserving) and ensure employees do the same.
- Ensure all records and filing systems are accurate and compliant.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of management or supervisory experience.
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- TAP/TIPS/Rserving certification required.
- First Aid certification is preferred.
- Training in wine, beer, and spirits preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Able to analyze and understand store operating reports, including P&L statements.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Must pass a background check and have reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequent walking, bending, lifting, and handling of products and materials.
Work Environment
- Primarily in a retail and warehouse setting with occasional exposure to moving equipment.
- Occasional driving of company vehicles may be required.
