About the Job

About the Project:

We are excited to announce a funded postdoctoral research position for our interdisciplinary research project sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. This project flips the script on traditional aging research by investigating brain resilience mechanisms in "fast-moving SuperAgers"-adults over 75 who maintain exceptional cognitive and physical function. We aim to understand the links between vascular brain function, neural plasticity measured through EEG, and biomechanical control of standing reactive balance in these exceptionally resilient individuals. Motivated PhD graduates with a strong background in human systems neuroscience are encouraged to apply.

Position Details:

  • Fully funded postdoctoral research position (1-2 years)
  • Collaborative research environment across disciplines of neuroscience, exercise physiology, biology, and biomechanics.
  • Access to cutting-edge neuroimaging (EEG, TMS, Transcranial Doppler ultrasound) and biomechanics facilities at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
  • Mentorship from leading experts in the field.

Application Deadline: December 1, 2025. The position start date is January 2026, with flexibility.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on resume):

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field (e.g., physiology, biomechanics, engineering).
  • Strong research background and publication record in electroencephalography (EEG), in particular using source localization methods.
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Excellent publication record.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB.
  • Effective scientific communication and teamwork skills.
About the Department

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota was created more than 50 years ago in response to a legislative mandate to train primary care physicians. Since then, we have been leaders in transforming the specialty through education, research, and patient care. We are the academic sponsor of seven family medicine residencies-five in the Twin Cities, two in Greater Minnesota. We are involved in medical student education activities across the Medical School's two campuses: Twin Cities and Duluth. We sponsor five fellowship programs-sports medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, behavioral medicine, clinical informatics, and human sexuality- and offer continuing medical education opportunities. We are regularly among the top National Institutes of Health-funded family medicine departments. Our faculty are actively researching health disparities, healthcare delivery, and population health.
