Overview:

Sentara Northern Virginia Center is hiring a Patient Care Tech (PCT) for the IMCU. This is a Full Time, Night shift in Woodbridge, VA. Hours: 7P to 7A with rotating weekends.

Intermediate Care Unit - this step-down unit from the ICU, is a specialized hospital area designed for patients who require a higher level of care than in standard medical-surgical units but do not need the intensive monitoring and support of an ICU. It serves as a transitional space for patients recovering from critical illness, post-surgical care, or those with complex medical conditions that need close observation and intervention. IMCU provides a higher acuity environment to ensure safe and effective recovery while facilitating timely escalation of care if needed.

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Education:

  • HS - High School Grad or Equivalent

Certifications/Licensure:

  • AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire Required.

  • One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant. Required.

Experience:

  • One year of health care experience preferred.
