Summary of Job Duties:A Research Technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Grover P. Miller within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). The Miller Lab studies the mechanistic roles of drug metabolism and bioactivation, particularly in targeted cancer therapies and drugs of abuse, to better understand their effects on therapeutic outcomes and adverse drug reactions.

The lab uses advanced analytical and biochemical tools to identify and quantify small molecules formed during metabolism and to link those findings to biological activity and in vivo results. Projects focus on:

Determining mechanisms, efficiencies, and fluxes for activation and elimination of toxic molecules.

Integrating computational models to improve the design and efficiency of experimental studies.

The Research Technician will conduct experiments, maintain laboratory operations, assist with training new staff, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in a collaborative research environment. Qualifications:
  • High School diploma/GED plus two (2) years of experience performing tests in a research laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and procedures.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field.

  • Experience operating and maintaining High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems.

  • Ability to move and clean laboratory equipment as needed.

  • Familiarity with general biochemical and analytical laboratory practices.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and assist with laboratory experiments, including in vitro metabolic reactions and chromatographic analyses (e.g., HPLC).

  • Process, analyze, and record experimental data; assist in data reporting and publication efforts.

  • Conduct literature reviews to support ongoing research.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, inventories, and order supplies as needed.

  • Train new staff or students in laboratory procedures and ensure adherence to all University, State, and Federal safety regulations.

  • Supervise a small team of student researchers to support project goals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Salary Information:

$35,110.40 annually
