Sr. Engineers, Software is located in Frisco, TX will research, design, and develop computer and network software or specialized utility programs.
Telecommuting is permitted, but applicant must work from the worksite location at least 3-4 days per week. No additional national or international travel is anticipated.
Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Continually analyze and tune the Splunk application and servers to optimally use the system resources. Perform deployments of Splunk configurations to support data onboarding and other maintenance/upgrade activities. Implement both off-the-shelf and custom monitoring solutions to proactively and quickly detect issues affecting the Splunk platform and user experience. Be able to quickly identify and resolve Splunk issues, even during non-business hours if necessary. Educate and respond to the user base on all Splunk questions. Work with the Automation Team to leverage their solutions for managing multiple Splunk deployments. Participate in design discussions with Principals and cross-functional teams. Participate in a regular on-call rotation to support the Splunk platform. Provide support for scheduled patching. Mentor and guide junior engineers on the team. Identify broken or sub-optimal processes and develop creative and efficient improvements. Partner with other internal teams to understand their logging requirements and how Splunk can solve their use cases. Stay up-to-date on Splunk releases and features; take training as needed. Participate in compliance audits (SOX, CPNI, PCI).
Minimum requirements: Experience and education requirements: PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Computer and Information Technology, Computer and Information Science, or related, and 3 years of relevant work experience. ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Computer and Information Technology, Computer and Information Science, or related, and 5 years of relevant work experience. Skills requirements: Requires experience in each of the following skills: 1. Splunk Administration: Proficient in managing Splunk in a multi-site environment, including data onboarding methods such as Universal Forwarder, HTTP Event Collector (HEC), and syslog-ng. Experienced in configuring indexer clustering, search head clustering, and index replication to ensure high availability and data integrity. 2. Splunk Processing Language (SPL): Skilled in developing complex search queries, creating insightful reports and dashboards, and utilizing REST APIs for data retrieval and manipulation within Splunk and programming knowledge (Python, JavaScript) experience with data ingestion methods and data modelling. 3. UNIX and Linux System Administration: Adept in administering UNIX and Linux systems, with strong skills in scripting languages such as Bash and Python. Capable of troubleshooting and resolving OS-level issues efficiently. 4. Server Patching and Networking: Experienced in server patching using automation platforms such as Ansible, ensuring system security and compliance. Proficient in networking protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP, with hands-on experience using tools like Wireshark, Nmap, and tcpdump for monitoring and troubleshooting. Familiar with A10 load balancers, leveraging ACOS and aXAPI for traffic optimization, high availability, and enhanced system reliability through SLB and GSLB configurations. 5. Computer Networking Principles: Experience in troubleshooting routing and switching using devices and protocols like Cisco routers, Juniper firewalls, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS. Comfortable working with traceroute, ping, and netstat for low-level troubleshooting and connectivity analysis across complex network topologies. 6. CI/CD Pipelines and Automation Tools: Experienced in designing and implementing continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Proficient in using automation tools such as Puppet and Ansible to develop operational deployment frameworks that enhance automation and efficiency. 7. Cloud Platforms and Technologies: Proficient in working with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure. Experienced in utilizing platform technologies such as Kubernetes to facilitate application integrations with logging and monitoring platforms.
