Job Title: Audio Visual Technical Coordinator (NWS 00828)
North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Computing Directorate has an opening for an Audio Video Technologist. With safety and quality workmanship as a priority, the successful candidate will install audio, video, and Video Teleconferencing systems. The successful candidate should have a strong background in A/V electronics, cabling, schematic review, and signal flow to ensure a successful commissioning and customer handoff. A personal interest in technology, electronics, audio, sound, lighting, video and/or security systems is preferred. This position is in the Enterprise Infrastructure Services Division (EIS) within the LivIT Program in the Computing Directorate. This position will be on site at the Livermore National Laboratory.
Essential Duties
- Perform installation and configuration tasks including but not limited to Control Systems, Digital Signal Processors (DSP), Matrix Switchers, Video Teleconferencing Systems, and other miscellaneous A/V equipment.
- Pull cable, install connectors, mount A/V equipment, and perform metal/mechanical fabrication
- Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints
- Perform tasks with the use of hand tools, power tools, and other miscellaneous A/V tools
- Perform soldering and crimping of connectors (XLR, RJ45, TRS, BNC, and F-CONN)
- Perform rack wiring based on industry standards and local security requirements
- Make programming changes under direction of lead programmer
- Field load and test code/configurations and control for A/V, VTC, and DSP systems
- Perform non-routine installation and configuration tasks including but not limited to Control Systems, Digital Signal Processors (DSP), Matrix Switchers, Video Teleconferencing Systems, and other miscellaneous A/V equipment.
- Make recommendations to proposed audio, video, and control schematics and diagrams
- Make advanced programming changes with limited to no supervision
- Advanced experience configuring A/V equipment from vendors such as AMX, Extron, Cisco, ClearOne, Crestron, etc.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Associates degree in telecommunications, electronics, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Knowledge of signal flow for audio, video and control.
- Experience configuring A/V equipment from vendors such as AMX, Extron, Cisco, ClearOne, Crestron, etc.
- Experience configuring, loading, and testing code/configurations for control of A/V, VTC, and DSP systems.
- Experience troubleshooting A/V equipment.
- Ability to read and follow schematics, sketches, drawings, specifications, and procedures.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools, climb ladders, and lift up to 75 pounds (pre-employment medical exam will be required).
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with customers and team members with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Advanced knowledge of signal flow for audio, video, and control systems.
- Ability to create and edit schematics, sketches, drawings, specifications, and procedures.
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Advanced experience configuring A/V equipment from vendors such as AMX, Extron, Cisco, ClearOne, Crestron, etc.
- A/V Vendor Certifications.
- Completion of the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Course.
- Completion of InfoComm Quick Start to the Audiovisual Industry Course.
Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.
Pre-employment drug test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post offer, pre-employment drug test.
Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
