What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an Electromechanical Technologist in the Explosive Component Manufacturing Science and Technology department for process and equipment optimization, and assembly of components.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Execute internal manufacturing activities including MQ deliverables and experimental work
  • Perform resistance welding, laser welding, cleaning, explosive powder pressing, explosive handling, soldering and other hands-on operations
  • Support or implement corrective or preventive actions
  • Be involved with new process/equipment development and qualification
  • Perform initial diagnostics on nonconformances, monitor area health, identify ways to increase yields and mistake proof processes
  • Seek out and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Implement new manufacturing technologies or equipment

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$62,400 - $120,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Associate's degree in a STEM related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire

  • Active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent
  • Experience in a production environment applying rigorous processes
  • Hands-on experience in methods such as resistance welding, laser welding, leak checking, soldering, and powder pressing
  • Experience in laboratory operations conducting hands-on operations
  • Experience working in a flexible, team environment
  • Experience with hazardous operations
  • Background or experience in working with explosive technologies and engineering applications
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
About Our Team

The Explosive Component Operations Science and Technology department (7457) produces energetic components that support deliverables for Sandia's nuclear deterrence mission. We also provide mission-enabling support to all of 7450, while innovating energetic component processes and production capabilities for the organization. We are responsible for production planning, product pre-acceptance, and component manufacturing. We oversee the construction and operations of the Energetics Manufacturing Science and Technology (EMSAT) facility.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
