The Opportunity

TC Energy is seeking a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Natural Gas Measurement to support our pipeline operations and measurement systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in RTUs, flow computers, and SCADA systems, with a strong foundation in AGA and API standards. The SME will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient measurement of natural gas across our infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the technical lead for natural gas measurement systems, ensuring compliance with TC Energy standards and industry regulations.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot RTUs and flow computers, with a focus on Thermo Fisher and Emerson FB platforms.
  • Apply and interpret key measurement standards including:
    • API 21.1 - Electronic Gas Measurement
    • AGA 3 - Orifice Metering
    • AGA 5 - Natural Gas Energy Measurement
    • AGA 7 - Turbine Metering
    • AGA 8 - Compressibility Factors
    • AGA 11 - Coriolis Metering
  • Collaborate with SCADA, automation, and field operations teams to ensure reliable data acquisition and system integration.
  • Develop and maintain measurement schematics, calibration procedures, and audit documentation.
  • Provide technical support for custody transfer, regulatory reporting, and internal audits.
  • Lead training and mentoring efforts for field technicians and engineers on measurement technologies and standards.
  • Analyze measurement data to identify discrepancies, optimize performance, and recommend system improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in natural gas measurement, with hands-on work in RTUs and flow computers.
  • Proficiency with Thermo Fisher and Emerson FB flow computer platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of AGA and API standards, especially API 21.1, AGA 3, 5, 7, 8, and 11.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3).
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications in gas measurement, instrumentation, or automation.
  • Experience with pipeline operations and custody transfer processes.
  • Familiarity with measurement data analytics and reporting tools.
